I Got Tagged. Hard.

I was tagged to write this blog post by the damn awesome Sofia Grey.

Thanks much, Sofia! You can find her post here.

What are you working on right now?

Well, I’m trying to finish up my second Shooting Stars book, Double Takes.  It’s an MM romance involving a middle-aged, sorta-washed-up rock star and a younger guy. I originally pegged it for 50K words, but I’m there now and still have a sex scene, a climax (not the sex scene kind), and a happy ending (again, not the sex kind) to go. Sigh. I’m thinking 60K at this point.

After that, I have plans for the third in this series, (top-secret title, with a main character who is an actor, not a rocker) but I may take a break to write the futuristic thingy I have keeping me up at night. We’ll see. Book three smacked me upside the head with inspiration while I was in the shower earlier today, so it may win out. It’s gonna be angsty (she said, shaking like an excited terrier)!

How does Double Takes differ from other works in its genre?

It probably doesn’t. 😉 Actually, I think Gio’s book has a pretty original premise, but I don’t want to spoil it for anyone. And it takes place in my old stomping ground, Bean Town, so it’s near and dear to my heart. The entire book is told only from Gio’s point of view, which was different for me, but a fun writing workout. I had to make my other MC likable and relatable without ever getting in his head (In his pants? Yes, but not in his head). You can check out the first kiss scene from Double Takes posted here, if you are so inclined. And Chance and Alex from Forever do make an appearance in Gio’s book, for anyone who’s wondering.

Why do you write what you do?

Basically, I write what I like to read. I’m also a crazy rock-metal-concert-going-fan-girl, so the music theme in my current series was a natural. I was always a huge fan of rogues and romance ever since I was a young thing who shouldn’t have been reading such business, and I devoured horror, sci-fi, and adventure my entire reading career. Now, I just mash-up my favorite things and hope for the best. I also firmly believe that love isn’t ruled by anything, including gender, so I will write any damn sexual pairing that beckons my muse.

How does your writing process work?

Does it? I’m not so sure. 🙂 I usually have a flash of idea—a character, an overall plot arc, or even a title—that dictates the whole shebang. Very often a song will spark an idea. I plot via an outline and copious scribbles in a black and white composition notebook. When I feel I have enough to actually seal the deal and not get stuck in a plot rut, I start writing.  And that’s all she wrote.

Now is the time on Sprockets when we dance, I mean tag three other people.

The fickle finger of fate lands on Diane Saxon, Heloise West, and Max Vos.

Slippery When Wet or Too #Sexy for my Blog or The Art of Writing Male/Male Anal

Did you sing that horrible song when you read the title?  A small, malicious part of me hopes so. >:-) Oh! I didn’t mean anything Bon Jovi, although this is a musical entry, I must say. Anyway, allow me to serenade you while we go at it, here.

The Slippery When Wet Blog Hop begins today, and I am ill-prepared. Or maybe too prepared. Anyway, I have a blog post I penned a while back, which seemed too risqué to send to other places as a guest blog, but is just right tonight after realizing I have two hours to get this sweetheart posted. Enter: The Art of Writing Male/Male Anal.

The Art of Writing M/M Anal

This won’t be comprehensive, but how about the basics for virgin author’s everywhere who want to delve into the great “Do Not Enter?” Sometimes it’s not just an exit, ladies and gentleman, but there are a couple of things we’re going to need in order to get this bird off the ground. So wave your magic pen and produce these magical items:

1.         Condom.  This baby gets top billing for most smut peddlers the world over. Publishing houses, generally speaking, are pretty firm on the “No Creampie” rule. That’s not to say you can’t sneak them in once in a while, especially in short stories which are more likely to fall into the erotica without romance or stupid people having risky sex categories (read: one seat closer to the almighty porn throne).  I wrote a short for Shane Allison’s Bad Boy anthology with Cleis Press (which should be out soon, actually) and had a bank robber getting it on with a hostage right after the hold up. Needless to say, there were no condoms available at the hideout in the woods. Obviously plot factors into your safe sex decision.

Also, if your MCs are in a serious, committed relationship, and you’ve laid that on the line—maybe even with a side note on VD testing (archaic term that is so Pretty in Pink it makes me smile–no, wait, I think that was Sixteen Candles)—you can go ahead and get really nasty. But—general rule of thumb—have a rubber in someone’s pocket/drawer/under the seat of their car/in the little booze container around their faithful St. Barnard’s neck.  Whatever. Non-human exceptions exist as well.  Aliens don’t carry AIDS and all you need is a rabies shot to get it on with a wolf shifter.

2.         Lube. This runs alongside the condom. For one, rubbers—even if they say lubricated—are going to make things, shall we say, rougher, than skin on skin. Also, chicks have the built-in lube. That’s right, we can make our own, so in vaginal sex no one gets bent out of shape if a bottle of K-Y isn’t sitting on your fictional dresser. But M/M? The human ass needs a helping hand (full of spit or jelly).  Spit isn’t the best, but it’s always available unless they are trapped in the Sahara, in which case, I doubt they’re feeling too amorous.

3.         A little foreplay. Even if you’ve got the rubber on your big burly top, he’s squirted an entire bottle of love-lotion on his long-stocking, and his pretty boyfriend is face-down-ass-up, it isn’t nice to just stick it in without a little preamble.  Rimming works, but if your guys aren’t so inclined, a gradual finger work-up is really the kinder, gentler thing to do than insta-penetration.

4.         Mention of the prostate.  No, it isn’t a prostrate like your mother-in-law calls it.  That means lying down with your face smashed into a pillow, which may well be the case with your sexy little bottom who happens to be getting his prostate hammered by his bear.  Not necessarily something you MUST mention, but seems to be a huge factor in the pleasure experience for the guy getting fucked.  I don’t know.  I don’t have one myself, and frankly I feel robbed. I’m going to go write my congressman right now.

5.         The grand finale!  I don’t need to tell you how to do this, really. The world is your orgasm oyster.  Have a fire hose showdown if you like.  One thing to remember is that if the guy on bottom gets off first, I hear tell having a big dick in his ass for an extended time after can be uncomfortable.  Again, I can’t verify this personally and I can’t ask my husband.  I also can’t take part in a fire hose showdown.  Robbed again.  Why else do you think I write this stuff?  It’s the closest I can cum, er come, I’m afraid. 😥

There you have it! Now go out there and write some hot manlove. Who knows? You could be a natural! If you don’t feel comfortable doing it yourself, feel free to comment below for a chance to win my e-book “Forever is Now” and I’ll be happy to provide it for you.

In your comment, you may tell me your favorite 80’s song/movie or must-have male/male gettin’-it-on accouterments I missed. Fire at will, contest open all over the universe, and don’t forget to check out all the other blogs and comment like a mother-fucker.  Every comment on every stop gets you one step closer to the $50 gift card giveaway. Wild West Succubus by Lila Shaw: Guest Post and Excerpt

Thanks, Kimber, for having me on your blog to talk about my latest release, Wild West Succubus.
Sometimes a short story is nothing more than that. Other times it’s a seed that with a little TLC can germinate in to a much larger story. Wild West Succubus began its life as a short story, only a few pages in length. It wasn’t a romance. There wasn’t a happy ending. The succubus of the title, Priscilla, was actually a pretty nasty character because she killed a man at the end. Erotic horror would have been the proper genre for it then. The reality is romance sells better than horror. The challenge was taking Priscilla’s murderous sex rampage and turning it into a love story. Ha! Impossible, right?Probably would have been had I not introduced a hero into the story to turn Priscilla around–Hugo. Hugo had to be powerful and he had to see the good in Priscilla. For that to happen, Priscilla needed to soften up some, to have her motivations better explained, to make her more sympathetic. I also needed to build chemistry between Priscilla and her Hugo. I needed to create a hero readers would admire.I think I accomplished all I set out to do and created a much richer story that was more enjoyable for readers. The addition of love always does make for a better story, in my humble opinion.

Blurb:

A woman damned…

Priscilla Goodnight, a widow in the harsh Kansas frontier, has a cattle ranch to run. She can’t afford to reveal any cracks in her tough exterior or indulge in sexual liaisons with her ranch hands. But a hungry succubus can only exercise so much self-restraint, making discretion, disguise and memory-wiping her top managerial skills.

The mysterious stranger who knows her darkest secret…

Priscilla doesn’t remember hiring the man with the wily smile and the flannel voice. At all. Men as physically appealing as Hugo Desmond rarely escape her bed, let alone her memory. And how is he able to move so fast, yet nobody notices but her?

Is she his target, his mission or his bait?

Hugo is a gargoyle—a specially-trained executioner—sent to purge the west of evil. With succubi falling squarely in demon territory, Priscilla has every reason to fear him … yet she can’t stay away. Hugo says he needs her help and wants to save her soul. But is redemption possible for a woman as wicked as Priscilla, or will love thaw her heart just enough for Hugo to crush it?

Excerpt:

A few of the men are laughing and eating breakfast, but as soon as I walk in, they grow silent … mostly.

“Morning, Miss Priscilla. Did you sleep well?” Fred asks, his last words ending with a snicker.

Most of the other men snicker too, all but Hugo, that is. He probably doesn’t know the rest well enough to be privy to their secrets.

Jesse slaps Gray on the back and Gray grins. Speaking through a mouth full of half-chewed biscuits, Gray says, “I slept like a titty baby myself.”

The others snort back their laughter. Hugo’s forehead furrows as he glances around the table.

I sigh. I don’t know why I expected better from Gray. But little boys must be taught their lessons, and the first one is don’t fuck with a succubus who holds your soul in hock.

After giving each man a smile in turn, I close my eyes and yank on Gray’s tether. He keels over and falls face first into the puddle of gravy on his plate.

“What the … Gray?” Jesse lifts Gray’s face from the plate and shoves him back against his chair, wide-eyed but unseeing. Mr. Yao’s savory sauce drips in long slimy strings from Gray’s nose. “Gray?” Jesse slaps Gray on the face a few times.

Gray isn’t home anymore. I slurp the last bits of his soul’s life-force in and breathe deeply as it spreads throughout every inch of my body. I am energized, immortal, powerful, and pissed off.

Hugo skewers me with his gaze, cold and hard. “Are you sure you want to do that? May raise more questions than it solves.”

What the hell is he talking about? Fuck him! Fuck all of them!

One by one, starting with Jesse, I lock gazes with each man around the table. As I ransack their recent memories, their expressions transform from mirth to horror to incoherent. The two newer hands I’ve never had to mind-wipe before—Winston and Jasper—fall asleep. The older hands will slowly regain their wits with what have been called devilishly hideous headaches. If any of them think they can take to their beds sick today, they’re dead wrong.

Hugo watches the entire proceedings, and when I get to him, my last target, he presses his lips into a thin line and resists my trespass into his mind. Those glacial blue eyes of his frost over and then seal shut, expelling me and slamming the door in my face.

How the hell is he able to do that?

With a snap of Hugo’s fingers, all motion, except his and mine, ceases. The clock stops ticking. A napkin casually tossed hovers an inch above the table’s surface. Mouths are frozen mid-word. Arms float rigidly in the air, and eyes stare blankly.

“Think, Pris,” Hugo repeats. His jaw is rigid, and his hands are curled into fists.

I stop trying to force my way inside Hugo’s mind. “Wh-what’s going on?” I wave a hand in front of Fred’s face, nearly threatening to put his eye out, but he doesn’t flinch, doesn’t even blink. I shove my chair away from the table and jump to my feet. “What kind of sorcery is this?”

Hugo slowly raises his eyes to mine. In measured words he says, “Give Gray back his soul.”

“I need it.”

“No.” He shakes his head. “You don’t.”

“He deserved what he got!”

“No. He didn’t. All you needed to do was mind-wipe him, just like the others. Sucking him dry is excessive. You don’t have to go that far. Besides that, we’re kinda short-handed. Do you really want to fall behind this time of year? Think about how hard it will be to find a replacement.”

The horror of this man’s cognizance of what I am grips me. “Who are you? What are you?” I take a few steps back, wondering if I should flee.

He lifts his eyes to mine. “I’m someone you should be very afraid of.”

“Afraid? Of you?” I throw my head back and laugh dramatically, just like those ladies on the stage. “Oh, little big man. I’m not afraid of any man.” But I am afraid of this one.

Lila Shaw is the pen name for a wee hours author of erotica and erotic romance. She adores writing about strong-willed women and the clever, charming (and well-endowed) men who love them. She believes if you can’t occasionally laugh at human foibles, and especially the physical aspects of love, you’re taking life far too seriously … unless the condom breaks, then you have every right to fret. Five bad/good things about being an author:

Good

* I’m living my dream and loving it!

* The voices in my head are called “creative voices,” I’m not mental.

* Knowing something I wrote touched a reader, and they loved it, makes me warm and fuzzy.

*Social networking

* I get to meet interesting people.

Bad

* Putting myself out there is sometimes difficult and scary.

* Now that I’ve accepted the voices in my head, they won’t shut up and let me sleep.

* Editing, although necessary, it’s not my favorite thing to do.

*Social networking

* I get to meet interesting people, who want to show me their private parts on Facebook.

Bound by obligation to marry another man…

Bound by blood to save his brother…

Excerpt:
“Fast I can do. It’s soft and slow I’m goin’ to have a problem with.”

“What’s the difference?”

“Different meanin’ for different people, mine’s personal.” He placed his palms against the wall by her ears.

“I don’t understand.”

He leaned his forehead against hers. “Fuck… you’re killin’ me, darlin’.” His fingers skimmed across her cheekbone and disappeared into her hair. “Do you remember what I said about kissin’?” His hazel eyes trapped hers.

“It can be dangerous?”

“Yes. And slow… slow is very dangerous.” He leaned forward, brushed his lips across hers, and all the air left her lungs. Something strange started in the depths of her stomach, and her skin flushed. Her nipples tightened, growing to the point of pain as they rubbed against the cotton fabric of her bra.

His eyes flicked toward them, a deep grunt sounded from his chest, and his hand tightened in her hair. He held her with a firm grip and leaned his forehead back against hers. “Reach down, and undo my jeans.”

She was trapped. Even if she wanted to retreat, there was nowhere for her to go. He’d invaded her space. Intense eyes stared right into hers as if he was demanding her deepest secrets with one hand buried inside her hair and the other curled around her neck. A rock hard, well-defined stomach pressed against her belly. The skin-on-skin contact ignited a slow burn that was sure to grow into a wildfire any minute. If she weren’t leaning against the wall, she’d collapse.

New Release from Kate Lowell! #Win #Ebook

My buddy Kate stopped over to give us a teaser for her new M/M release Bite Me Tender coming this month from Loose Id. She’s also offering up an e-copy to a lucky winner over at Joyfully Jay’s, so stop over and comment for a chance to check out some hot werewolf/witch love!

Blurb:

Levi is a werewolf. His boyfriend, and the love of his life, is a witch. After living together for three years, they decided to commit to each other and change Glyn into a werewolf. Levi hoped the pack would accept Glyn more readily as a wolf. Glyn hoped it would eliminate his erratic magic and erase the OCD it caused. One year later, they’re still trying…

Levi can’t understand why his bite won’t change Glyn and he’s running out of time to figure it out. His pack is being threatened by a larger one, he’s facing dissension in the ranks of his own ruling council and Glyn’s grandmother is poking her witchy nose into their relationship.

Under threat of a violent takeover, the council pushes another potential wolf at Levi, infuriating Glyn and adding weight to Levi’s own doubts. Council machinations divide the two lovers, leaving both men questioning their lives, their love, and what they’re willing to endure for each other.

Full moon is a time of power and change. It could be a disaster, or it could be the key to happily ever after. If they’re strong enough to wrestle their future from its bloody claws.

Buy link: Loose Id      http://www.loose-id.com/bite-me-tender.html

Excerpt:

He(Levi) tried not to think about Tuesday night as he dressed, tried not to look at the tracery of scars on Glyn’s back and arms. He knew there were others hidden beneath the sunny yellow sheets—some silver, some pink, some still a painful-looking red, taunting him with his failure. Like he wasn’t wolf enough to turn Glyn. Or like Glyn was too much witch for him to turn. It made him wonder uneasily if all his previous successes had been nothing more than luck and if he was just torturing Glyn for no good reason.

But Glyn swore it was possible and that being made into a werewolf would make his power work properly, or at least fix it so he didn’t have what he called his “fucked-up episodes.” And there wasn’t much Glyn could ask of him that he wouldn’t do, though this was coming close to his limits. A year’s worth of failures. And it was Glyn who paid the price for it, though he’d never once said a word in recrimination.

I’d feel bad for Levi, except it was too much fun putting him through the wringer. And it’s going to happen again in the next one! *rubs hands gleefully*

Hot Summer Romance Giveaway Hop!

Well, would you look at that?  <——

It’s like the backwards blog!  I don’t even try to make you read my post before you get to the goods!

Actually, I will make you comment.  And I’ll be bikini brief, I promise. All comments for all participating blogs will be shuffled around in a random name picker (not to be confused with a random nose picker). So comment on all the blogs at the top for the best chance to kick ass at winning!

But first, a word from your sponsor.

We have two grand prizes. #1 is a Kindle Fire. #2 is a $50 Amazon.com gift certificate.  Not too shabby. And you can win an e-book from me right here, baby! Fantabulous!

Hold up.  Wait and read what I have to say!  We’re talking words of wisdom passed down from generation to generation, folks. In the spirit of romance and hot summer lovin’, I had an old family proverb pop into mind.  It goes a little something like this:

When the weather’s hot and sticky,

That’s no time to dunk the dicky.

When the frost is on the pumpkin,

That’s the time for dicky dunkin’.

Thanks, Dad and Grandpa! So while it may be wicked-hot and hard to imagine dicky dunkin’ of any variety, fall is coming (and for you G.O.T. fans, winter isn’t far behind). To celebrate, I’m giving away a copy of my latest release, Star Catcher.  I never do this—goes against my personal company policy, so be very excited.  Star Catcher is set in the fall, and despite this heat wave we’re having, I can just imagine a bracing breeze as my heroine, Stella, races through a corn maze to escape otherworldly beasts. And I want to share it with y’all.

starcatchercover

So, comment, and I’ll shove your deets into the random name generator thingy, and if everything doesn’t get sucked into a voracious black hole, I’ll pick a winner.  It just may be you. 🙂

*****

Excerpt from Star Catcher:

Another overgrown shape materialized to Stella’s left. It sniffed the air and turned alarmingly in her direction.

It was all the impetus she needed. Stella turned and ran from the hounds of hell.

The stalks beat against her. They stung her bare skin and grasped her hair like bony fingers as she forced her body through the canes. She dug a path through the dry material, raking the plants with her hands to make way for her body, only to be slapped in the face as she split the rows. Stella ran like never before. In high school, she had competed in plenty of races on the track team. The act of pushing her body to the limit was not foreign to her.

This race was far worse, though. The stakes were life or death.

Fire speared through her chest as she sprinted between the scratchy vegetation with nothing more than moonlight to guide her. Rising hysteria made her breathing more labored than running alone. The thing could hear her crashing through the corn and could detect her scent. There was no point in trying to be stealthy. All she could do was move as swiftly as possible.

The pale moonlight grew brighter up ahead, and she forced herself not to slow.

Nearly safe. Get out of this nightmarish maze. Almost there.

Stella broke from the corn. A breath of unbelievable freedom nearly choked her, cool and remarkable, before she slammed into a wall of glass. Her arm had been pumping upward and took the brunt of the blow, but the barrier was completely unexpected. The breath gushed out of her like a released balloon.

She lay stunned in the damp grass, shaking and hyperventilating. The blades rose tall around her, and she was tempted to stay down; to hide. Who could see her here?

But that thing could smell her.

She wasn’t safe until her car door closed, and she was locked inside. Then she could relax. Stella managed to pull up on all fours and crawl over to the invisible wall. She reached a hand into what should have been open air and was met with ice-cold resistance.

What the hell?

It felt like plastic. She noticed a faint give and recoil as she pushed hard against the wall. It was like an invisible force field. Her stomach did a somersault.

Stay calm. If you lose your head, you’re done. Get to the entrance of the maze. Head right, follow the wall. You can get out of this, but you need to move now.

The voice in her head gave the command and she obeyed. Stella sprang up. Fight-or-flight hormones surged through her, and she began to run at top speed along the edge of the field. Her hand trailed along the smooth, cool barrier, waiting for a break in the enclosure. Sooner or later she would find the exit—that, or a dog-monster. Or maybe she’d run straight into the freaky sideshow chicks who had imprisoned them. Whatever happened, she wasn’t going down without a struggle.

If she was bound for Hell tonight, she wouldn’t be the only one.

Scrap Metal Author Jennah Scott

Fellow Liquid Silver author Jennah Scott stopped over for an interview, and to share a bit of her new book, “Scrap Metal,” written with Alexi Raymond.  I love this cover, and sounds like they’ve got a story just as delish to go with it!

1.        So, Jennah, what is your writing process like?  Are you a planner?  Pantster?  What is your favorite writing tool or tip?

I’m a ploster—plantser—whatever you want to call a combination of the two. I usually start with a loose plot that I can follow throughout, but still give the characters room to make their own decisions. My favorite tool would be Scrivener. My favorite tip…never delete anything for good. Put it in another file to be used for later. I don’t know how many times I’ve gone back and retrieved a line here or there for a scene.

2.        How much wood could a woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood?

Hmm depends on the size of the woodchuck’s teeth.  J

3.        Who are your favorite erotic romance authors right now and why?

Jayne Rylon comes to mind first. Her Hot Rods and Powertools series are fantastic. She’s mastered telling a good, well-rounded story that don’t take hours upon hours to read. Also, Cassandra Carr and Avril Ashton—who I just discovered. If you like bad boys, as in really bad boys, you have to check her out. Lorelei James is another of my favorites; she’s an auto-buy no matter what she writes.

4.        Please give us a two-hundred word teaser from your latest release, as well as the tag line for your book.

Tagline: Love is like art; you can take scrap and mold it into something beautiful.

Excerpt:

He was ready to put his plan into place when they walked inside, but she jumped onto the counter and sat with one leg crossed over the other. Her hands propped up behind her, pushing her breasts out to further torment him.

“So about that adventure on the desk.”

This woman knew what she was doing to him. When she hopped on the counter, her eyes lowered a fraction of an inch, a look that screamed, “I’m yours to do with what you want.”

The sound of a truck out front turned both of their heads. Ryke wanted to tell her he could lock the door or hell, forget whoever was out there. He was hard and aching and had a beautiful woman on his countertop.

Angelica hopped from the desk, cupping him in her hand. “Probably not good for business, huh,” she pouted, her hand trailing across his zipper as she started to move behind him. “You have an office back here, right?”

Ryker looked between the door and the woman who turned his world upside down and his dick hard enough to break concrete. She motioned with her thumb behind her. “Come find me when you’re done.”

5.        While you’re writing/planning—music or no music?  If music, what kind?

Music—most of the time. As far as what kind, that depends on the story. When I’m working on a western, then it’s country music. Otherwise, alternative.

6.   Do you find it easier or more enjoyable to write male or female protagonists?  If you have a preference, why?

Male protagonists for sure. They don’t hide what they feel, sometimes to their detriment.

7.     Do you have only one WIP, or do you bounce around between projects?

I tend to bounce around until I get into a groove with one. Then I stick with it until I’m done.

8.   What genre would you write if you didn’t write erotic romance?

Urban Fantasy. I have a wip that’s about halfway through. I’ll finish it one of these days.

Not one to settle down, Angelica Rousseau never thought she’d consider planting roots in the small town of Kimmswick, Missouri. When her art speaks to her—and gives her a reason to get up close and personal with body shop owner, Ryker Talcott—sticking around starts to have appeal.

Ryker has to deal with a lot of personalities and has found that custom orders for women almost never end well. Especially when the women are as picky and confident as Angelica. This time it’s different. He’s never met a woman like her. She rivals his confidence and has the attitude to back it up.

When the past threatens their future, Angelica and Ryker have to decide what’s more importanttheir own promises to themselves, or the love they both feel for each other.

“Slave For Love” Cover Reveal

Holy Hot Vampire Spankin’!  The wait was torture, but so worth it.  And maybe I even like a little torture. 🙂

This should be out very soon and includes my twisted fairy tale, “Cinderella in Hell.”

Here’s a quick teaser from “Cinderella in Hell” to get you in the mood:

Rella gazed across the expanse, shivering in delightful anticipation.  As the musicians ended their tune, the dancers cleaved like a wanton woman opening her legs to a lover.  At the center, she saw him.

Prince Dominic sat on his throne.  His black hair was pulled back at his nape, and he rested his strong chin on a fist.  Hooded eyes were glazed with obvious disinterest as they poured over the surrounding merriment.  As if pulled by an invisible force, his gaze met hers.

Rella was on fire.  Her fairy had kindled a conflagration within her.  It felt as though the pyre was visible through flesh and bone, boiling her blood, and apparent to the man who possessed the matching spark.  The prince stood, and stepped deliberately down the dais, straight toward her.

“You dare arrive at a royal ball attired thusly?”

His eyes burned into hers, indomitable and hard.  They were the color of pure emeralds, and equally unyielding.

“I mean no offense, Your Majesty.”  She curtsied, and black feathers fluttered around her.  The entire congregation seemed to be similarly ruffled.  Hushed whispers met her ears.  Snippets of speech rang clear in the low rumble.  Who is she?  What impudence!  Unmask her!

“I would know who stands before me.  You challenge the etiquette of my realm.”  The prince’s hands pulled her mask away as he spoke.

“Rella, of House Tremaine, as it pleases Your Highness.”

Please me, indeed.  My subjects never fail to please me, Rella of Tremaine.  He leaned toward her, and lowered his voice.  “Why do you think I stage this travesty of a ball?  All here are eager to please, but so few truly crave the role of submissive.”  His eyes raked her body.  “Do you think I am blind to those that warm my hand and bed out of duty?  Those affairs taste stale from the outset.”

His voice was a dark whisper for only her ears and sharp teeth flashed between his lush lips as he spoke.  A lustful tremor spiked through Rella.

“And yet, you throw my predilections in my face with your garb.  It is a transgression worthy of punishment.”

Deciding to Write

I have TD Hassett guesting on my blog today.  TD is a fellow Liquid Silver author whose book Isabel’s Awakening is available now.  She’s here to tell us about her decision to write.

Hi, TD!  Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for letting me stop by today! I don’t get out of my office nearly as much as I would like, at least not for fun stuff like talking about writing.

I only took up writing very recently and it was kind of a fluke.   I teach a SAT prep class, among other things, and oddly enough was inspired to start writing by one of the students in that class.  She was an inner city teenager with more baggage than I’ve ever come across. This girl is a smart kid with a ton of charisma.  Often times I would catch her on the computer typing away but not about what was assigned.  I’d try and redirect her and she’d say, “Miss, I can’t do that, I’m writing my novel.” I would get her to do a little bit of the class work and then she’d be back at her writing.  It was both frustrating and inspiring. I went home and reflected on this student’s determination to write and it was contagious.

I started a book that evening and by the end of a week had  forty pages written.  It was slow going, but whenever I wanted to give up I just thought about my student who kept writing despite all the very real roadblocks life had thrown at her.  What was my excuse for quitting?  Could I really give something up because I had some writer’s block or was too busy?  What would I be too busy doing at nine at night?  It took me 6 months to get a polished draft ready to send to the publishers for consideration but it was worth it. I got plenty of rejection letters but finally three publishing houses offered contracts and I chose  Liquid Silver Books because the acquisitions editor  reached out to me with all kinds of support and encouragement.  I waited until I had a contract to tell my family and friends (and that inspirational student) that I had been writing.  I suppose I was afraid to let them know about the writing for fear of it not being ‘good enough’ whatever that means.  I can happily say that I am still writing and enjoying some wonderful support from friends, family and fellow writers.

Happy Writing!

Author Biography

T.D. Hassett  grew up reading the romance greats, Jackie Collins, Julie Garwood and Judith McNaught.  She was certain that life should be like a romance novel, lots of passion, some incredible adventures and a guaranteed happily ever after.  She attended college in New England earning a B.A. in history and a M.S. degree in clinical psychology before changing her mind again and studying education.  Currently Ms. Hassett lives in Connecticut with her very patient husband and two young children.  Her rambunctious family shares their home with 3 crazy cats and a darling golden retriever named Delilah.  Her eccentric relatives and their quest to make her feel like the only normal nut in the family tree inspire her writing.

 Isabel's Awakening

It’s been five busy years, and Newcastle-born singer/guitarist Thomas Morgan is still punishing himself for his younger brother’s death.

Thomas’s young, fashion-model wife once led her husband’s idolizing brother, Chris, into both drugs and an adulterous relationship. The loss of his brother and total destruction of his marriage destroyed Thomas. To avoid entanglements with others, even his young son, Thomas focused on promoting his music and the management of his now highly profitable record company. He thought he had everything at a safe distance, at least until Isabel literally slammed into his life.

High school teacher, Isabel Warren, finds herself falling head over heels in love with the sexy-as-sin guitarist for the rock band Becket. Soon Isabel’s orderly world of lesson plans, thesis writing, and student loan debt is competing against desire, passion, and her vulnerable heart.

Isabel struggles to navigate her newly stirred passions with her rising academic career and independent nature. As the sex sizzles, the two lovers will have to decide which parts of their dreams they will sacrifice for their fledgling relationship.

Can Thomas ever trust and love again, and will the young woman he meets ever have the confidence and strength to be with him?

Excerpt:

It was well after midnight, and Isabel felt the buzz of concert beer and party wine. Thomas had been working the room steadily and checking back to ensure she was chatting happily with a group. She saw him cornered with a radio show producer he’d introduced her to earlier. Thomas had a tortured expression on his beautiful face. She finally understood why the whole band didn’t show up at these things.

The ladies she’d been chatting with were working up a sweat on the dance floor, and part of her longed to join them. The rational side won out. She really couldn’t dance and preferred others not to know how clumsy she could be, especially after a few drinks. Isabel parked herself by the bar and prepared to enjoy some people-watching. She couldn’t believe how packed the place was. She did meet some really nice people and only got snubbed by a few drunken idiots who must have been trawling for celebrities. Part of her was disappointed it was time to go when Thomas returned from his latest round of shop talk and asked if she was ready to head out.

Thomas escorted her to the elevator while tapping out a message on his iPhone. He was letting the hotel’s driver know they were ready to go and where to meet them. They stepped into the mirror-lined elevator and headed down to the lobby level. Suddenly, Isabel was nervous, and not in a front-door-kiss-or-no-kiss-end-of-the-date sort of way. She hadn’t had the talk with herself about this date because it just all sort of happened. She had really expected just to go to the show and then be home by ten thirty, reading thesis notes and petting her cat. Even at the backstage party, she’d still thought she’d get to chat with him for a few minutes and then be dismissed with the rest of the hordes. Why did he want to be with her when there were so many other girls? Insecurities washed over her.

Thomas overwhelmed her. He was so out of Isabel’s little world. On Monday, she would teach the Crusades to disinterested seventeen-year-olds, and he would be many miles away somewhere, crooning out megahits to a stadium filled with adoring fans. Oh my God. What was she even pretending to do?

Her disparaging thoughts suddenly flew totally out of her head. Thomas looked right into her eyes and stroked her lower lip.

“You did great tonight. I’m really glad you came,” he huskily whispered. Before she could ask for clarification, he continued. “I saw you talking and laughing with the staff from Marketing and Planning, and I liked that. In my line of work, you get a little sick of people always brown-nosing the celebrities and forgetting who’s responsible for the whole fuckin’ operation.”

It sounded as though he was about to say more, but the elevator jerked to a stop, and the lights went out, only to flicker back on seconds later. Must have been a power surge and the backup generators were kicking on.

Isabel stared back, wide-eyed and openmouthed. He leaned closer, and without any further hesitation, his lips met hers.

This was a kiss, a real, soul-sucking and tongue-sliding-over-her-lips kiss, the kiss of all kisses. Oh my.

One of his hands slid from her jawline to the back of her neck and pushed her lips into harder contact with his own. The other hand gently tugged her jaw down so her mouth opened slightly. His tongue slipped into her mouth and tickled her inner lip. He swirled his tongue around and caressed hers. She tasted the heady mix of wine and good stout on their mingling breaths. Before she could stop herself, she let a little moan escape. Their mouths became even hungrier for each other, and she pressed her breasts to his chest. He nibbled her lip a bit and then resumed the dueling of tongues deep in her mouth. The hand on her neck dropped down and gently squeezed her ass, pushing her harder into him. She felt his erection against her lower belly, and very wicked parts of her longed to pull his leather pants down and stroke him. Isabel rolled her hips against him and was rewarded with a wonderful growl.

He slid his hand up her clingy tank top and cupped her breast. She wanted more. Her breasts swelled, and her core became soaked with just the rhythm of his tongue in her mouth, sliding in and out and around. His slender fingers slid their way under her bra, and finally, he stroked one engorged nipple. The blood in her body flooded to two very special spots.

Isabel strained against his fingers, wanting him to pinch and stroke her nipple more. Hell, she wanted him to slide his other hand up and play with both breasts. He ground against her, and she responded with animal like mewling noises. This was not the teacher her students would even realize existed.

The elevator shook and resumed its downward journey, jolting both of them apart. Cool air flowed against her heated skin, and they each took a deep breath. Thomas stepped sideways a bit. He smiled like a male model and said simply, “Wow.”

She couldn’t help replying, “Wow to you too.”

Leah must stop Phoenix, save those he has tampered with, and get back to Ian.

But first, she must save herself.

Excerpt:

Shifting, I trailed my mouth down his neck, teasing his chest and then sliding lower, where I confirmed that Ian was, indeed, naked, hard, and eager for me. Ian lowered his lips to mine and our tongues tangled together. Short, slow licks quickly smoldered into white-hot desire as we made love to each other’s bodies with our lips and tongues.

He pushed me away from him and I released him with a reluctant groan until he flipped me on my back and wrapped my legs around his shoulders. With his eyes fixed on mine, he slid his tongue out and gave me one long, torturing lick. I gasped, and he flashed me that crooked smile of his and did it again.

“I love to watch your eyes glaze over in ecstasy while I devour you, my love,” he crooned before tasting me once again.

I fisted my hands into the silky strands of his hair and lost all sense of sanity as he tormented my body with long, slow swirls of his skillful tongue. When I thought I could take no more, he slipped his tongue inside me and suckled on my center until I could only see white bursts of pleasure through my closed eyelids. My head thrashed from side to side. His pace relaxed and the slower he slid in and out of me, the more intense the pleasure became that shuddered through me until my body burst with rapture and insanity all at once. I screamed his name with my release, but Ian kept his mouth in place, drinking down my pleasure—as if it were the blood he existed upon.
