Excerpt:

Some clichés are used for a reason. They are used because they are so bloody true. Happily, most people don’t ever find this out. They don’t experience their whole life flashing before their eyes as a train hurtles toward them. Or feel their blood turn to frozen sludge in their very veins. Right then, I experienced my own little clichéd moment. My blood ran cold, while my heart stuttered painfully in my chest.

Somehow, I managed to speak, and my voice came out calm enough to belie my inner turmoil. “I don’t like your game. And if you don’t go, and take your friends with you, I’m calling the police.”

He sighed. “Such gratitude. I could go, but then they’d come in, and I don’t think you’d like the results very much.”

“They didn’t come in last night.” I shot back.

“Because I sat here last night, too.”

What? The very idea of someone sitting, in the dark, watching me while I slept unawares, had every single centimeter of skin bumping up as the hair rose all over my body.

“How did you get in? I locked the door.” I glared at Sandy in the dark. Useless guard dog she made.

“I have a key,” he said. “It’s been in my family for years. I sat here and guarded you. Nobody will hurt you with me here.”

His soothing, deep, dark voice once again washed over me. It almost lulled me into security, despite my better judgment.

What would he look like? My mind had been whirring away, conjuring up all sorts of terrible visions. He might be like the bald, hideous creature from those old black and white vampire movies. Or perhaps he’d be tall and darkly handsome, in a devilish way. Something out of a Gothic novel. My very own Heathcliff…which wasn’t a good thing, I’d always thought Heathcliff cruel and mad, rather than exciting and sexy. With trembling fingers, I reached out and clicked on the night-light. Not knowing seemed scarier than the reality of what I might see.

He gave a hiss and put a hand over his eyes, giving me time to take him in. Normal. My first, astonished thought was he looked normal. Large, sure. Tall. Even sitting in the chair as he was, I could tell as much. And broad. His shoulders were brawny, defined by his checkered shirt. But normal all the same. He wore faded jeans and a white T-shirt, loosely covered by the unbuttoned checked shirt. The ensemble was finished with the sort of boots construction workers favored.

“Christ. Warn a guy before you try to blind him.” He moved his hand from his face and scowled…and I stared some more.

Okay, not quite normal. Unless you count looking like you’ve dropped from heaven as normal, which I most certainly didn’t. Handsome didn’t quite cut it. Blindingly, stupendously beautiful, almost did him justice. Not devilishly handsome as I’d imagined, but a man with the face of an angel.

Interview with Author Vanessa Sims

I met the lovely Vanessa Sims via Facebook and am happy to have her visit my blog today for an interview. She’s a great sport. 😉

You’re at a karaoke bar. What song (by what artist) do you sing?

As of right now I would sing Blank Space by Taylor Swift or Shake It Off or Bad Blood. Well basically anything from her 1989 album.

It’s Groundhog Day today. If you had to live one 24 hour period over and over again for the next fifty years, which day would it be?

I think I would have to relive the day I went to Disney World. I mean because it’s Disney World and I was kid. You couldn’t get any better than that.

Have you always wanted to be an author, or did you decide to pursue writing later in life? Was there a specific incident that got you writing?

I love to write and read. I always kept a journal, but half the time I didn’t remember to write in it. I actually finished my first book when I was 15. It was a YA book. I can’t find it for the life of me. I think my mom might have thrown it out unknowingly.

Where do you find your inspiration?

I find my inspiration from a lot of things. Since I started writing I would look at couples and wonder if they are a couple and half the time I’m thinking awe they are so cute! And I also think well if mf stories can do it why can’t m/m.

Would you ever write M/F or F/F? Why or why not?

I am actually writing 2 M/F’s right now. Hopefully they will be out soon. As for F/F, I’m not going to say yes, but I’m also not going to say no. Something might come and I need to let it out.

Who is your favorite character in all media, throughout history? Why?

I have never thought about it. I would have to say, well shoot no names are coming to mind, that’s bad.

Who is your favorite character from your books? Why?cherished mate

I would have to say Anton from Cherished Mate in my Red Moon Pack series. I just love the way he came together and how he took care of his responsibility and the way he gets under Noah’s skin. Gotta love someone who can get under an Alpha’s skin and they’re not their mate.

Are you at all superstitious? In what way, or why not?

If I see a penny I will pick it up, though I think I do it wrong because I never know which way it’s supposed to be facing. When the time is double say 11:11 I make a wish on something red. I also try to wish on the first star of the night.

Bio for Vanessa Sims:

I live in Texas but originally I am from Trenton, NJ. When I graduated from high school, I joined the military. Yay me. I did three years with one tour to Iraq. I am happily married because seriously would put that they are unhappy. I have three kids. No pets, they scare me but I have a healthy respect for them. I am currently a stay at home mom and I love read! A lot. If you want to contact me you can do so at vanessa.sims@aol.com and you can follow me on twitter at @vanessasims18. Emma Weylin’s Before the Dawn #paranormal #romance

Today I have fellow Liquid Silver author Emma Weylin stopping over on her release day!

The second book in Emma’s paranormal Secret Blood series, Before the Dawn, is available at LS Books and should be live on all major e-book retailers shortly.

Blurb:

Samantha Moore doesn’t know she’s a werewolf. For years she believed she was a monster until a hot stranger walks into her father’s bar. With the promise of a better life and freedom from a cage, she decides to trust her animal instincts.

Nicodemus Wolcott works for the shape-shifter Tribunal. When he goes to investigate a report of a distressed shifter, he doesn’t expect to find his mate. He can teach his she wolf how to be a werewolf, but his one chance at love could be lost when nothing turns out as it seemed.

Excerpt:

He let her go several hundred feet before he turned his trotting pace into a sprint. He caught up and hooked an arm around her.

She let out a terrified scream. Her fangs sank into his forearm, and he let her go as a reflex. She stumbled into a tree and then crumpled to the ground in a sobbing fit.

“Please go away. He’ll kill you.”

“Shh,” he said in an even timbre while rubbing his sore arm that would be healed by morning. He should not be rock hard while dealing with his terrified mate, but holy hell, she smelled like nirvana. He battled the instinct to shift into the hulking lycan form. Dealing with a sobbing, frightened woman always caused the urge. It would serve to only scare her more. “I’m here to help you. I won’t let Leon hurt you ever again.”

She stayed knotted up against the side of the tree. “Thanks, but I don’t need help. Please just go.”

“Samantha, I know what you are.”

Her whole body stilled before she unfolded herself and turned. She sat on the loam-covered ground with her knees bent and her clawed hands curled in the dirt. “I’m a monster. Please go before I hurt you. I don’t want to, but it just happens.”

He narrowed his eyes on her. Truth, or a lie fed to her by Leon? He crouched down into a catcher’s stance. “I need more information before I can decide if you’re a monster or not. How many people have you killed?”

Her bottom lip quivered. “Five. And Leon killed two people who found out what I am.”

His jaw went tight. Fuck him. His mate was not rogue. This was un-fucking-believable. “Can you tell me what happened?”

She sniffled. “No. I never remember when the change happens. Leon, my father, cleans it up, and then we move.”

She wasn’t lying. He could smell lies, but he didn’t think she had killed anyone. Cases like this were rare but not unheard of. He pulled at his stubble on his chin. “Do you know what you are?”

“A freak.” She wiped her nose with the back of her hand, smearing dirt across her cheek.

“No.” He stood up and took a step back, well aware how large he was compared to her. The Wolcott family had a Kodiak-bear shifter in their line, making them larger than the average wolf. “You’re beautiful.” He took a step closer to her. When she didn’t move, he closed the distance between them and crouched down next to her. “You’re in danger. It’s normal to do what we call a semi-shift when you’re frightened or angry.”

“N-Normal?” Hope filled her Nordic-blue eyes.

“Want to see mine?”

Her hand fisted, and she scowled at him. “This isn’t funny. I’ve hurt people, and I am a freak.”

“You are a werewolf, just like I am. Just like Ozz and just like Aiden Hyde.” He held her gaze while she processed the information.

Her fangs and claws retracted, and she scooted closer to the tree trunk. “Prove it.”

“As you wish.”

Cadillac Time Machine

“Just keep ’em closed.” Chance Ralan turned the wheel of the black Cadillac Escalade and pulled into the crowded parking lot. He shot a glance at his husband, Alex, in the front passenger’s seat. The red paisley scarf covering half his face made him look like a bandit with bad aim.

“You tied a bandanna over my eyes, Chan. What could I possibly see?”

“Oh, don’t act like you never cheated at Pin the Tail on the Donkey. Everyone did.” Chance yanked the shift into park and pulled the key out of the ignition. “We’re here!”

“So, I can take this off?”

“Nope. Not yet.” Chance hopped out and jogged around the back of the vehicle. He opened Alex’s door and leaned over to unbuckle the seat belt, placing a quick kiss on his man’s lips as he did.

“Come on.” He took Alex’s hand and led him out of the truck. “Careful with this step.”

“If you were hoping for some kinky Valentine’s shit, you really should have cleared your plan with me, first.” Alex shivered in the frigid February night and Chance wrapped an arm around his back. The frozen pond outside the lit-up building made him wish they could have done this in June for the full effect.

But then it wouldn’t be a Valentine’s Day present.

“You’d be in your birthday suit for kinky shit, babe.” Chance swept a hand under the hem of Alex’s pea coat and grabbed his ass through the perfectly pressed wool of his tux. “Just another minute.” He pushed open the front door and pulled Alex into warmth. He led him through the lobby and finally stopped.

“Now?”

“Now.”

Alex pulled the scarf off and gazed around, his brow scrunched together while he ran fingers through mussed black-brown hair.

“What?” He cocked his head at the huge sign over the entrance to the Crystal Room. It read “Prom 2003: A Night to Remember.”

“I did my homework. That was the theme.” Chan took Alex’s hand and yanked him toward the door like a kid leading a parent into a toy store.

They stepped inside the function room festooned with purple and silver balloons, streamers, and tablecloths. At least a hundred people were there dressed in tuxedos and extravagant gowns. They stood and clapped when Chance and Alex walked in.

“What did you do?” Alex slowly shook his head as he took it all in.

“We missed it. So I made a do-over.”

Glen Palmer waved at them and Alex waved back, still shaking his head. His eyes widened as he scanned the room full of classmates from their senior year.

“We did our own thing, Chan. It was cool.” Alex turned to him, a bewildered smile on his gorgeous face.

Except it wasn’t cool, for so many reasons. Chance didn’t have the balls to admit who he was back then. Sure, they’d hung out secretly that night ten years ago, but just a few weeks afterward Alex’s dad caught them together and Chance had run like a chicken shit.

He spent nine years reliving and regretting, so maybe he’d paid his dues, but he was so excited to give Alex this little piece of their youth finally done right—out and proud.

“Is that Tara Bleaks? And that looks like…Jeremy! Jeremy Castiglione!” Alex scratched the back of his head and waved with his other hand. A general look of amusement was shared by nearly every prom attendee, but they gave Chance and Alex their space.

“Yup!” Chance took their coats and threw them over a vacant chair. “Plus some spouses you’ve never met. I tried to convince people to go with their original prom dates, but most of them didn’t like the idea.”

Alex gave him his wry, raised eyebrow stare. “You’re joking, right?”

“Yeah, rude, huh?”

Alex laughed and rolled his eyes. “You can’t do that to people. If I’d taken Heather Phillips like my mom tried to arrange, I’d be here with her, you dope.”

“Oh, no. That would mess with the time-space continuum.” Chan squeezed Alex’s hand tight. “That’d be like stepping on a prehistoric butterfly and turning the future world into a Lovecraft book. Let’s dance.”

“Babe, you didn’t really invent a time machine, you know.”

“Most of these women crammed themselves into their old dresses, with a few obvious exceptions.” Chance tilted his head toward a table of has-been cheerleaders who’d apparently traded their pom poms for bon-bons. “They’re playing 3 Doors Down, ‘Here Without You.’ It was Audioslave when we walked in. The DJ has my express orders to play nothing but music from ’03 or earlier. Yes, we’ve gone back in time.” He gave Alex a cocky grin.

“I’m pretty sure the real thing was heavy on the pop and dance music.”

“Yeah, well, when I fund the prom, they play only the shit I like. And I didn’t invite anyone I really hated, either.”

“What a catty bitch you are.” Alex laughed, his sapphire eyes sparkling under the shimmering lights of the disco ball above them.

“Mmm. And you love me anyway.”

“Yes, I do.”

Alex wrapped his arms around him and Chance melted against his perfectly tailored jacket. “This was really sweet, Chan. Now I’m feeling a little inadequate about what I got you.”

Chance stretched up to lock lips for a moment. “Don’t worry. You know what happens on prom night, don’t ya? You’re not gonna get off easy.”

“Isn’t that exactly what happens on prom night?”

“Oh, yeah…well, you know what I mean.”

“I have an idea. Thank God you didn’t rent a limo. I’d be up all night paying you back.”

Chance pulled his cell out of his jacket pocket. “Hold that thought…limos…limos…” He scrolled over the search results.

“Guess I’ll need a cup of coffee or two.” Alex laughed and leaned down to kiss him again.

John Mayer’s “Your Body is a Wonderland” came on. Alex grimaced.

Chance smirked and pulled him closer. “Shut up and just go with it.”

With a laugh and a pinch of Chance’s ass, Alex did just that.

The night was everything their prom should have been, with the added bonus of ending the party at their own house, greeting by their giant, doofy dog, and falling together into their shared king-sized bed. No way could their senior prom ever have been half as good.

“No! Watch out for the butterfly!” Alex mumbled in his sleep.

Chance placed a kiss on his temple and another on his cheek before he settled against Alex’s naked chest. “No changin’ this now, babe. Don’t worry.” He pulled the covers up around them both and closed his eyes.

A Welsh Wolf in Wellington Blog Tour

Sofia Grey stopped in today for her “A Handful of Wolf” blog tour. She’s giving away three copies of her new book to three random commenters at her stops, so don’t forget to throw your hat in the ring!

Take it away, Sofia!

The Wild Side of Wellington

Since most of Sasha’s story takes place in Wellington, the compact and thriving capital city of New Zealand. I though it would be fun to feature a different part of the city – especially those mentioned in the book – on each tour ‘stop’. Come and join me on a truly unique virtual tour of Wellington J

I never explain where you’d find the headquarters of the Wellington Wolf Pack, but that’s because Connor, the Alpha, wants to keep it a secret. He chooses to meet Sasha in an anonymous back street bar, and Sasha is also none the wiser.

However, if I had to hazard a guess, I’d place it in the green, wild hills above the suburb of Karori. It’s wild and open enough for their wolves to roam in safety, and remote enough to avoid human interaction.

Wellington is at the southernmost tip of the North Island (because as you know, NZ is made up of two islands) and even though parts of it are still rugged and sparsely populated, it’s the South Island that has remained largely wild.

There’s a 175km track through the Fiordland Coast that claims to be the longest stretch of walkable wilderness coastline. Its isolation and difficulty of access has meant that the coastline’s raw and wild beauty has remained unchanged since pre-human times. That’s definitely somewhere you’d find shifters.

In this extract, Sasha is clubbing with Megan and her friends when he hears a worrying rumour:

~

“It gets you like that, aye.” Lou’s words made no sense. He flicked her a glance, unwilling to look away from the bathroom door. Did she know? Nah, must be a lucky guess. “The vibe in here.” She gestured to the fingers of smoke drifting on the air currents. “Megan loves it, but it makes me feel edgy. It’s the same for you, isn’t it?”

Yeah, just a lucky guess. He corralled his thoughts. “How do you mean?”

Lou shrugged. “Megan says there’s something here that she feels at home with. I keep imagining we’re going to get jumped by vampires, or werewolves or something.” She gave a self-conscious laugh, her hand rising to her throat. The biker dude had disappeared without Sasha noticing.

“There’s uh, no such thing as vampires.” Could Megan feel the shifters? Is that why he was drawn to her? Could it be that his wolf was simply confused in here?

“There’s werewolves though.” Lou inched closer. “They’ve been seen.”

“Seen?”

“Reports in the local papers. Huge dark wolves on the hills. Too many to just be hunting dogs.” Sasha’s heart juddered. One of the fundamental tenets of shifter law was secrecy. If the Kiwi wolves were getting careless, who knew where it might lead.

A Handful Of Wolf is available 25 November 2013, from Liquid Silver Books.

LSB Cover Art Template for PhotoShop

Sasha’s not a looking-to-the-future kind of guy, but he’s made an exception with his plans to travel and meet lots of pretty girls. Too bad his Pack Alpha, fate, and reality have other ideas about his trip abroad. He’s pretty sure he didn’t sign on to be a diplomat for the Snowdonia Wolf Pack. Or to find a Mate. Especially not a human Mate.

Megan knows better than to let a sweet-talking charmer get under her skin, but Sasha’s sexy playfulness is making her forget all her rules. Except one: she’s not willing to risk her heart by falling in love. The gorgeous boy from Wales can only be a fling, especially since her over-protective brothers hate him on sight.

In the midst of a wolf uprising, a hesitant Mate, and Megan’s complicated family ties, Sasha learns that sometimes impulsiveness is dangerous and even lethal. Can he show Megan why they belong together before it all comes crashing down around him and he loses his Mate forever?

~

I’m giving away 3 copies of A Handful of Wolf, to 3 lucky commenters across the tour. Just leave a comment at whichever site you visit, and you’ll go into the draw. The more comments you leave, the more chances you get to win.

New Release from Kate Lowell! #Win #Ebook

My buddy Kate stopped over to give us a teaser for her new M/M release Bite Me Tender coming this month from Loose Id. She’s also offering up an e-copy to a lucky winner over at Joyfully Jay’s, so stop over and comment for a chance to check out some hot werewolf/witch love!

Blurb:

Levi is a werewolf. His boyfriend, and the love of his life, is a witch. After living together for three years, they decided to commit to each other and change Glyn into a werewolf. Levi hoped the pack would accept Glyn more readily as a wolf. Glyn hoped it would eliminate his erratic magic and erase the OCD it caused. One year later, they’re still trying…

Levi can’t understand why his bite won’t change Glyn and he’s running out of time to figure it out. His pack is being threatened by a larger one, he’s facing dissension in the ranks of his own ruling council and Glyn’s grandmother is poking her witchy nose into their relationship.

Under threat of a violent takeover, the council pushes another potential wolf at Levi, infuriating Glyn and adding weight to Levi’s own doubts. Council machinations divide the two lovers, leaving both men questioning their lives, their love, and what they’re willing to endure for each other.

Full moon is a time of power and change. It could be a disaster, or it could be the key to happily ever after. If they’re strong enough to wrestle their future from its bloody claws.

Buy link: Loose Id      http://www.loose-id.com/bite-me-tender.html

Excerpt:

He(Levi) tried not to think about Tuesday night as he dressed, tried not to look at the tracery of scars on Glyn’s back and arms. He knew there were others hidden beneath the sunny yellow sheets—some silver, some pink, some still a painful-looking red, taunting him with his failure. Like he wasn’t wolf enough to turn Glyn. Or like Glyn was too much witch for him to turn. It made him wonder uneasily if all his previous successes had been nothing more than luck and if he was just torturing Glyn for no good reason.

But Glyn swore it was possible and that being made into a werewolf would make his power work properly, or at least fix it so he didn’t have what he called his “fucked-up episodes.” And there wasn’t much Glyn could ask of him that he wouldn’t do, though this was coming close to his limits. A year’s worth of failures. And it was Glyn who paid the price for it, though he’d never once said a word in recrimination.

I’d feel bad for Levi, except it was too much fun putting him through the wringer. And it’s going to happen again in the next one! *rubs hands gleefully*
