Shira Anthony’s Dissonance Tour: Interview & #Giveaway

Hi, everyone! Today I have Shira Anthony visiting with a quick interview, info on her new release, Dissonance, and a totally cool giveaway! So exciting! 🙂

What was your favorite book as a kid? I had so many, it’s hard to pick a single favorite! I was a total bookworm, and I read mostly fantasy and sci fi. If I were to pick a favorite book that inspired me to write, though, it would be The Heritage of Hastur, by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It’s partofsci fi/fantasy series set in a universe that pits modern technology against psi powers on a planet where modern weaponry is prohibited. Why did it inspire me? Her stories featured rich worldbuilding and, in the case of Heritage of Hastur, the first gay romance (albeit between the lines) I ever read. But it stuck with me, and when I began to write my own books, that novel was still in my thoughts. To this day, I’ll reread some of that series to inspire my own writing.
Where did your initial idea for Dissonance come from? I wrote Cam, the main character in Dissonance as the cheating boyfriend in an earlier book in the Blue Notes Series. I hadn’t meant to like him, but by the end of that earlier book, Aria, I realized he had a story that needed telling. So even before that book was published, I knew I wanted to write Cam’s story, because even though he was a jerk in Aria, I knew there was a reason for it.
If you wrote a genre other than romance, what would it be? I can’t really imagine writing anything other than romance, but if I woke up tomorrow and someone told me I had to write something else, it would probably be science fiction or fantasy, since those are the genres I adored as a kid. But I’d still probably sneak a bit of romance into those stories!
What is your biggest writing challenge? Controlling my muse! She’s constantly feeding me ideas, and I have to rein her in, or I’d never finish anything! As it is, I have about four projects I’m working on now, including 2 contemporary romances I’m writing with other authors, and installments in my Mermen of Ea Series and my Blood Series. My muse is very fickle.
Are you a full-time writer? If not, what other job do you do? I am a full-time writer, in that I write 40+ hours a week. But I’m also a full-time public sector lawyer. I work during the day, write at lunchtime, in the evening, and on the weekends. It’s quite a lot to juggle, and I rarely get to read for fun. TV is basically out. My husband’s happy when I come up for air! But I love writing too much to do it less than I do. I think Dissonance is my 13th book in four years. I’m pretty proud of that!

Wow. I’d be extremely proud of that, too! Thanks so much for stopping by, Shira! Dissonance looks great!

Blurb:

British noble Cameron Sherrington has hit rock bottom. The love of his life, opera sensation Aiden Lind, is marrying another man, and Cam knows it’s his fault for pushing Aiden away. As if that’s not enough, someone is trying to take away his family business, and the US authorities are pursuing him on charges of money laundering. Fearing for his safety and unable to return to London, Cam runs, but he’s too broke to find a place to stay, and his fugitive’s life doesn’t even remotely resemble a Hollywood thriller.

Desperate and betrayed by the people he thought cared about him, Cam takes refuge in the subway station where Galen Rusk plays his trumpet for tips. Though Cam hears the beauty in Galen’s music, it’s Galen’s firm hand on his shoulder that stops him from throwing everything away. Their unusual relationship takes a turn that surprises them both, and neither man is sure he wants the complication. Galen is fighting the ghosts of his past, and Cam has his own nightmares to face. When Cam’s troubles threaten to tear them apart, Cam figures he had it coming—that it’s all penance due for a life lived without honesty or love. But he never considered the possibility that he might not survive it.

Bio:

Shira Anthony is a complete sucker for a happily-ever-after, and rarely reads or writes a story without one. In her last incarnation, Shira was a professional opera singer, performing roles in such operas as “Tosca,” “Pagliacci,” and “La Traviata,” among others. She’s given up TV for evenings spent with her laptop, and she never goes anywhere without a pile of unread M/M romance on her Kindle.

Shira is married with two children and two insane dogs and when she’s not writing, she is usually in a courtroom trying to make the world safer for children. When she’s not working, she can be found aboard a 30′ catamaran at the Carolina coast with her favorite sexy captain at the wheel.
