Release Day: Bound by Ink

Well, here is a happy surprise!  I knew that my story Bound by Ink was due for solo release soon, but didn’t have a specific date.  It’s today–hooray!

I love this gorgeous cover.  Makes me want to go and get another tattoo right now!

Blurb:

On an alternate Earth, Key has his marriage ink placed out of duty to his friend, Kaya, but realizes his mistake too late. He runs from the woman and her family, desperate to find a happiness that is sure to elude him in his village full of narrow-minded people. In the wilderness he discovers Dax, a man who left their tribe to seek his own freedom. Lust sparks between them, but with Kaya’s father on the hunt for Key, and Key’s own guilt plaguing him, will the two fugitives be able to find their happily ever after?

Bound by Ink was originally printed in the Written in Flesh anthology from Storm Moon Press. It is a novelette-length story of about 13,000 words.

100th Sunday Snog– #Giveaway and Blog Hop

So, the lovely and so philanthropic Victoria Blisse is hosting this fabulous blog hop.  She has about 50 hoppers lined up, all posting kissing scenes with giveaways.  Frankly, people, you can’t lose.  Please consider tossing a small donation toward the charity Doctors Without Borders by clicking the above button.  As I’m sure you well know, they do tremendous work the world over, saving lives with minimal resources and little thanks.  Here’s a great way to say we care about the work they do!

My kiss comes from my WIP, Double Takes, Shooting Stars Book 2.  It probably needs more editing, but this is what happens when I fly by the seat of my pants.

Incidentally, Gio Savale, my (maybe?) bisexual rock star is flying by the seat of his pants in this scene, and loving every minute of it. 😉  For a little back story, he is the star of a reality show he hates, and he and his new friend Lance have just seen a commercial for said show while watching a baseball game at Gio’s place.

———

“What was that all about?”  Lance’s warm fingers slid from Gio’s, leaving his hand cold.

“Ah, it’s dumb.  The world’s most degrading way to make a paycheck.”

“I wouldn’t be so sure.”  Lance stared at something past Gio’s shoulder as he spoke.

“The producers took some stupid poll and found out the viewers want to see me…” Gio paused in search of the right word.  What the hell did people want to see?  And then it hit him.

“Squirm.  They want to see a supposedly bisexual man drowning in the same-sex dating pool.  It’s all bullshit—just for ratings.”

“So you’re not really dating that guy?”

“No!  Well, yeah, I have to for the show.  But not really.  It’s just a publicity stunt, you know?”

“So you aren’t bi, then?”  Lance cocked his head and skewered Gio with those intense hazel eyes.

“Yeah!  No!  I mean…it’s not like I…”  What the fuck was he even trying to say?  You’ve screwed around with guys before, ass munch.

The confused squint of the eyes staring back at him—moss-green with spikes of brown radiating from his pupils—told Gio his answer didn’t exactly make sense to Lance, either.

“I always wondered if those rumors were true before you got married.”  Lance made it sound like a question.

“Well, you know how it is…when you’re young, and you party too much.  Sometimes you do shit you wouldn’t normally do if you weren’t fucked up, right?”  Gio gave a weak laugh.

Lance’s face was introspective and finally he shook his head.  “When I was young and I partied too much, I never ended up in bed with a woman, so no…I don’t know.”

Hold the fucking phone.  Gio felt something skip inside his chest.  It was nauseating and exhilarating all at once.  Like a rollercoaster when it crests the top of the hill.  He knew it was about to drop—craved the intoxicating feel of free-fall—but was scared shitless at the same time.

Lance placed his dinner on the coffee table and turned to Gio.

What is going on?  How do I even respond to that?

“So…?”  Gio began, but then Lance’s right hand wrapped around his neck and pulled him closer to those amazing eyes, his mouth closer to Lance’s flawless one.

Lips, soft yet firm and unbelievably full, pressed to Gio’s and his eyelids pulled down like they were weighted.   Fingers carded the hair at the back of his head and lured him to kiss back.  Or maybe it was the faint spicy smell Gio now associated with Lance that made his lips pucker and nibble against the other guy’s delicious mouth.  Gio detected a hint of lemon poppy-seed dressing as he sucked a voluptuous bottom lip between his own.

Lance’s tongue darted out to lick Gio’s closed mouth and Gio opened to suck in a surprised breath.  That had to be why he parted his lips, but Gio’s tongue had a will of its own.  It met Lance’s wet tip and they swirled together, exploring each other’s taste, marking new territory in the other’s domain.

Gio heard a low rumble and wasn’t sure if it was he who had groaned or Lance.  He wanted to grab the man sitting next to him, wanted to slide his hand up the inseam of his jeans and stroke his dick into dripping hardness.  Gio’s own cock was filling, twitching against the constraints of his pants with each meeting of their tongues.

Oh my God, what the hell am I doing?  Nothing about this kiss—hot slippery tongues meshing and soft bristles tickling his cheeks—nothing about it was like his memories of other men.  Those were hazy and unreal and this was vibrant, electric.  His conscience had long ago associated those fleeting, drugged sexual acts with perversion.   He had swept them under the carpets of history along with his ancient addictions.  But this kiss didn’t make him think of sinfulness and mistakes.  It felt right like nothing before ever had.  It flooded his senses and his prick and had him aching for more—everything Lance had.

Gio pulled away from his thoughts and Lance’s lips.  His breath came in shallow gasps that exposed him as much as the bulge in his pants did.  Lance slid his warm hand off Gio’s neck and took a shaky inhalation.  Gio swallowed hard as he swiped his hair back with a trembling hand.  His plate was still in the other hand, tilting precariously but thankfully not dumped all over the floor.  He set it down on the table just as a cheer went up on the television.

The Red Sox had scored a home run.  I only got to first base, but man, I was close to dropping to my knees and knocking this one out of the park.  What the fuck?

Touch Me Not by Genna Donaghy

Author Genna Donaghy stopped by today to share a bit about her new M/M book, “Touch Me Not.” I just picked it up and can’t wait to read this one!

Summary:

In an alternate universe, where gender is less important than how dominant a person is, Jake Alric is the odd man out. While other subs spend their days trying to find their one true mate, Jake goes out of his way to avoid dominants. He’s seen the dark side of soul bonds, and all he wants is to be left alone to tend his small Montana cattle ranch in peace.

When an oil company starts buying up land all around town, Jake comes under increasing pressure to sell. A chance encounter brings him into contact with one of his potential mates, Henry Waterstone, son of the man trying to buy Jake’s ranch and a handsome dominant who pushes buttons Jake didn’t know he had. For the first time Jake is tempted by the true pleasure of being a submissive. But as Jake and Henry grow closer, a new player in the oil company rises up and threatens to sever their fragile connection. Suddenly the person Jake was most afraid to find becomes the one he’s most terrified to lose.

Excerpt:

Four shots of whiskey and one beer on an empty stomach meant Jake was feeling no pain.

Stella tried to get him to spend the night in the back office, crashing on the couch she kept there for friends. She even threatened to call Sam down to take his keys, but Jake promised on his mother’s grave he’d sleep in his truck and wouldn’t drive home. Finally, she relented.

The joke was on her. As far as he knew, his mother was alive. If anyone could call it that.

Still, when he missed putting his key in the door lock a total of four times in a row, he had to admit she had a point.

His balance wavered dangerously as he leaned behind his seat to fish out a thick blanket he stored there for emergencies. His truck bed was littered with hay from his last haul, and he could see his breath in the air, but he’d slept outside in worse before. He’d sleep a few hours to sober up before he drove home.

He walked around the truck to climb to the bed and paused as the bar door slammed open. It looked like Mr. Fancy Suit hadn’t suffered too badly under the twins’ attentions. Or maybe he had. Jake watched as he stumbled unsteadily around the parking lot, patting his pockets for keys. But Jake’s truck was the only vehicle left.

Mumbling to himself, Mr. Fancy Suit wobbled to the edge of the intersection of the two-lane roads and made to put his hand on the stop sign but fell short and hit the ground.

Blind drunk, Jake thought. He was tipsy himself, but at least he wasn’t stupid about it.

The man didn’t get up, and Jake frowned. “Hey!” Jake called.

No movement.

Well, damn it. The man couldn’t sleep on the side of the road. Temperatures around Tamarack fell fast, even in late summer.

Jake walked up to the downed figure and carefully toed his side. The man murmured but didn’t rise. He was lying flat out on the ground. Jake could see his tie was loosened around his collar, and one glove was missing.

Jake bent to search his pockets but didn’t come up with a cell phone or a wallet. He scowled. Sometimes the town hosted business conventions, which brought in outsiders. The MacKenzie twins were not above showing a tourist a good time, but he’d never seen them resort to robbery before.

He was going to kill the both of them next time he set eyes on them. It was one thing to do what you had to in order to survive, another to leave someone—especially an unmated dom who couldn’t quickly heal himself—out to suffer exposure.

Going back to the bar was not an option. The neon OPEN sign in the window had gone dark. It was past closing time, which was probably why Mr. Fancy Suit had been kicked out. Stella wouldn’t thank Jake for darkening her doorstep with a drunk stranger.

Jake was tired enough to lie down on the road himself, and had he been more sober, he would have been able to fight against the sub instincts to nurture. He knew he should walk away, but he couldn’t. He really hated himself sometimes.

The Timberline Motel was open across the street, though it was the type of place that rented rooms by the hour. Probably not where Mr. Fancy Suit would like to wake up. Too bad for him. With a long-suffering sigh, Jake bent to grip Mr. Fancy Suit under the arm. “C’mon, partner. Rise and shine.”

Mr. Fancy Suit stirred and struggled to his feet. Gritting his teeth, Jake slung his arm over his shoulder—Mr. Fancy Suit’s gloved side, thank you very much—and started walking him to the motel.

“Where’re going?” Fancy Suit slurred. His breath was sweet with brandy, and he leaned on Jake with every step.

“Getting you somewhere soft to sleep.” Jake was none too steady on his feet either, and they both nearly toppled over a curb.

The man hummed under his breath, his head dropping, presumably to watch his feet.

“Tell me if you’re going to upchuck,” Jake warned. “You get any on me, and I’ll leave you right here, you understand?”

“My room’s 204,” he answered thickly.

Jake rolled his eyes. They were far away from whatever nice hotel room Fancy Suit probably rented for the night. The Timberline Motel was one level and had maybe twenty rooms, tops.

It was a comedy of errors trying to maneuver them both into what passed for a lobby. Fancy Suit’s knees wobbled at the worst times, and he reached out to a nearby car door as they passed, as if to climb in. Feeling his patience run short, Jake swung the man around and picked him up under his knees and arms, bridal style. He would have gone for the fireman’s carry but was afraid Fancy Suit would just throw up all down his back.

“Hey!” Fancy Suit kicked out, and Jake nearly overbalanced.

“Shaddup,” Jake snapped, tightening his grip around the man’s solid frame. Like most doms, Fancy Suit didn’t lack muscle. He weighed a ton. Sometimes Jake was too nice for his own good.

Karen, the dom manning the desk, widened her eyes when Jake staggered into the lobby. “Hey, Jake. Caught someone at last?”

He ignored that. “He got worked over by the MacKenzies pretty good. He needs a room for the night.”

“Who is he?”

“No idea. They took his wallet.”

She pursed her lips. “We don’t let just anyone in without ID. You know that.”

“Karen, look at him.” He glanced down as he spoke. Fancy Suit’s head lolled to the side, his dark eyes half-open. “Look how he’s dressed. You know he’s good for the money.”

She gave a quirk of a smile. “You got a point. Tell you what: I have a niece in 4-H who’s looking to raise a steer next year. Teach her how to spot a healthy calf, give her a good price, and I’ll overlook the ID just this once.”

“Deal,” Jake said, and she slid a key into his gloved hand.

Luckily the room wasn’t far away. His shoulders burned from the weight of the man. He almost dropped him while opening the door and accidentally bumped the man’s head on the way in. Fancy Suit swore and woke with a start, hands and feet flailing. It was too much, and they both fell in a tangle of limbs as the door closed behind them.

“What?” Fancy Suit looked around blearily. “Where…”

“You’re drunk.” Jake had had about enough of this. He pushed him away and stood. “I got you a room for the night. Stay put and sleep it off.”

“What’s goin’ on? I don’t…”

Jake sighed and pulled him back to his feet with every intention of propelling him to the bed.

“Wait,” the man said. Before Jake could stop him, he reached out to place a hand on the back of Jake’s neck. His ungloved hand.

A tingle of warmth went through Jake, from the point of contact, through his skin, and down to pool in his heart. He looked into the man’s—Henry’s—smoky black, confused eyes, and deep affection stole over him.

Henry’s face broke into a wide, drunken smile, and Jake felt himself returning it.

“Stay,” Henry told him and pulled Jake to the bed. “Stay.” It was a direct order, and Jake couldn’t have refused it, even if he’d wanted to.

* * * *

Jake woke feeling warm and comfortable. He opened his eyes to an unfamiliar room with a stale smell and terrible 80s decor. He tried to move, wincing as his head gave a painful throb. His mouth tasted foul, like he’d been sleeping with it open.

There was a warm presence pressed up against his back. A sigh of breath drifted over his nape. The memories of last night rolled over him, and he tensed.

Oh, no. Oh, God, no, please…

A quick look down confirmed he was fully clothed, gloves and all. An unfamiliar bare hand wrapped around his torso, holding him possessively close. Other than that—

They weren’t bound together. Not yet. The initial connection between them had been made, but that wasn’t permanent. Slowly, Jake turned to see the man who could be his mate.

He was…handsome. A little shorter than Jake’s six feet, but his tailored suit clung to his broad shoulders and muscled torso. He looked to be part Asian, maybe Vietnamese with his high cheekbones, almond-shaped eyes, and the bronze sheen to his skin. His dark hair was cut short but styled, or at least had been before bed head had tweaked it in all directions. There was something strong in his face, something that spoke “dom” to Jake’s instincts. A powerful one. As Jake watched, the man—Henry, he knew his name was Henry—turned on his back, his mouth dropping open to let out a long snore.

And God help him, part of Jake wanted to lie down and tuck himself up against that muscled chest. He’d be safe with Henry, he knew. Taken care of.

Jake didn’t want to be safe or taken care of. He wanted to make his own decisions and determine his own course in life. He didn’t want to belong to anyone.

Jake clenched his gloved hand into a fist, then spread his fingers again, hovering them over Henry’s exposed neck. He’d have to move fast, because if Henry woke up, Jake knew he would be lost. Henry, like any dom who could be his mate, had utter power over him. He could override Jake’s objections, order him to take off his clothes, and then bind them together. After, Jake could never say no to any direct order ever again. He’d be nothing but a puppet to his mate’s wishes.

Just like his mother had been to his father.

Jake’s fingers rested on Henry’s neck. Through his gloves, he felt Henry’s pulse, steady and strong.

Make it quick, he told himself. Close your eyes, squeeze, and don’t stop until he’s dead.

The seconds ticked by, but Jake remained frozen. Eventually his shoulders slumped. He couldn’t do it. Not in cold blood. Not like this.

Jake pulled away from Henry, stifling a gasp. Losing contact, even through clothing, felt like he was grating his teeth on tinfoil. A worried line formed between Henry’s slack brows, and Jake knew he had only seconds before the dom became agitated enough to wake up.

Taking the first step away from Henry hurt deep inside, like something was wrenched in his soul. A loneliness he hadn’t been fully aware of suffused his heart. The sound Jake made was half a sob as he shook his head, staggering to the door like he was drunk all over again.

He thought he heard a murmur behind him as he shut the door, a slurred, “No, wait…”

Jake slammed the door before Henry’s words became an order. He turned and ran as fast as he could across the street, nearly getting killed by a passing car that blew its horn at him. His truck was parked at the bar with the keys hanging out of the lock. He jerked the door open and climbed in, gulping air.

He didn’t dare look back at the motel as he pulled out of the parking lot, driving like the hounds of hell were after him.

Guest Post: Who’s Your Daddy: Picking a Top and Bottom by Kimber Vale

I’m at Genna Donaghy’s blog today talking about picking tops and bottoms for M/M snoo-snoo scenes. Stop in for a quickie!

TRR Blog Hop: Review: An Unauthorized Field Guide to the Hunt

What to say about AUFGTTH by Kari Gregg? For one thing, I love the title. It’s just so big.

I’ll admit, my interest was piqued the moment I saw the cover. Sci-fi male/male with what appeared to be a Hunger Games-esque beat?

I wanted it.

But I couldn’t quite wrap my head around the plot via the blurb. What the hell was going on, exactly? I waited for some reviews to pop up and read those. Still, I didn’t really “get it” based on what others were saying either.

So I bought it.

Admittedly, I think I have a better grasp for the whole hunting/off-world system, but during my read I was still fuzzy on some of the rules of the hunt. What was the purpose, precisely? Some guys wanted to get laid. Some cats wanted to get laid. Some species wanted to improve trade relations with a planet whose inhabitants are either fucking people/aliens or killing them. Or maybe fucking them to death?  Anyway, now that I’m done, I still don’t have all the answers—as in, I couldn’t possibly write a coherent book report on this without some CliffsNotes and a fair amount of smoke for blowing up people’s asses.

That being said, I still liked it.

Unauthorized Field Guide is brutal and dark. There is a fair amount of bloodshed and broken bones—and I thoroughly enjoyed that. I love gritty.

The sex scenes are both hot and cringe-worthy. Biting, scratching, and barbed penises are the order of the day. They gave me pause and wet panties all at once. Fine and dandy.

Some reviews I’ve read stated that the ending wasn’t satisfactory. I was concerned that the book I had pegged for four stars was going to slip as I hit 80%.

No such thing. The ending was action-packed—savage as the rest of the book, with the “bad guy” behind it all being the person no one expected.  There could have been just a smidgen more foreshadowing in that department IMO, but, again, I was a-okay with the grand finale.

Overall, Guide was a fast-paced fuck-fest that tries for a bit of lovey HEA at the end without shoving the rainbow sprinkles down your throat, thankfully.

I liked it, and would recommend to anyone looking for a quick thrill ride that delivers in all the dark and dirty places.

So, what’s the giveaway? That’s what everyone came here for, right?  Well, I’m giving away a copy of my new release, “Forever is Now.” Follow my blog and drop me a quick comment to be entered.

Blurb:

If you love someone, set him free. If he steals something of yours, hunt him down and make him sorry.

Alex Bremen is over Chance Ralan. Ever since his high school boyfriend ditched him nine years ago, Alex has barely thought of Chance at all. Sure, Alex attended a concert or two when his ex’s band, Armageddon Showdown, was in the area, but that was more curiosity than anything else. Who wouldn’t want to see firsthand how his once clean-cut boyfriend transformed into a pierced and tattooed heavy metal god?

But when Chance has the nerve to record a love song Alex wrote for him years ago, Alex crosses the country to confront him. Revenge becomes a dish best served sizzling hot. The two men lock horns, but find the chemistry between them has only intensified with time, and occasionally love needs to do some growing up before it can be done right.

My Forever is Now: Name that Dog Blog Tour

I have a page on here dedicated to my contest details, but I’m re-posting on my home page to get the word out since today is day one!  Hooray! Hit me with your best puppy names, people!

What the hell am I talking about, you ask?  What the hell am I ever talking about…

I’ve got the most. Fun. Blog. Tour. Ever going on—that’s what I’m talking about!

Coming 9/9/13 from Liquid Silver Books!
Coming 9/9/13 from Liquid Silver Books!

Do you love naming animals and possibly small people, but not necessarily cleaning up their poop? Do you love $20 Amazon gift cards? Does the thought of the name you pick being used for the name of the puppy in my next book get you excited? How about a shout-out in the acknowledgements of said book, AND a free e-copy of that very book to add to the bundle of fantastic I’m offering here?

Here’s the deal, Shaquille:

Name this dog:

ID-10066292

Cute little shit, ain’t he/she?  That’s right. I don’t know if it’s a boy or girl yet. I don’t even know what breed it is for sure. You can be the judge and let your ideas inspire the name.  All it has to be is freakin’ perfect, and then I’ll obviously pick it and use it in my next book.

Want to have an advantage over the competition? Well, here’s your hint: Chance and Alex of Forever is Now show up in the second book in my Shooting Stars Series (Double Takes). The puppy will be theirs. Run with that—but not with scissors.

That’s all I’m telling you. If you read Forever is Now you probably have a leg-up on naming the new addition to Chance and Alex’s family. Do you have to read it to come up with something that twangs my cat gut? Not necessarily! So if you don’t even read M/M and you’re just here for a gift card—go for it! We’ll see which I pick. 😉

Oh, and people who follow my blog and enter a name, while I will try to be fair and partial, you will probably come up with something that just sounds better to me. That’s how things go, right? If you stop by my house and suggest a puppy name, and then tell me I should weed more and my place is a freakin’ pig sty and you never want to come over again, your name suddenly sounds a little shitty, doesn’t it?  😉

YAY!  Fire at will, and feel free to supply more than one name! Contest runs from 9/6 to 10/6, after which time I will announce and contact the bodacious winner.

Oh, and if you’d prefer to email me a name directly: kimbervale [at] hotmail {dot} com

Or you can tweet to my handle @kimbervale  and #ForeverIsNow is a fun hashtag, methinks.

Or you can find me on Facebook and post to my wall.

It’s all cool! I’m still pretty flexible despite my years. 🙂

———————

“I bet you never got over that first boyfriend, huh?” Delia must have been a scab-picker as a kid. She just did not quit.

“Him? I gave up on him a long time ago.”

“Well, he sounds like a real asshole, letting you go.” Delia shrugged.

“Yeah, his loss, right?”

Chance picked up his beer glass and chugged the remainder before he slammed it down on the table. He nudged the startled groupie, who scooted out of the booth with him right behind her. Like a pent-up and poked lion, he stalked to the bar. Judging by the two fingers Chance held up, he ordered a double of something clear. He threw back the shooter and stomped off toward the men’s room.

“What’s his deal?” Delia asked no one in particular.

Alex’s glass was low, and he used the opportunity to excuse himself. Jools grabbed his computer and slid it over to pick up where he left off without a skipped beat. Miles racked pool balls across the room, while Jimmy laughed loudly and chalked his cue. Alex breathed a sigh of relief to see his assistant occupied.

He was so stupid for sticking his dick in that guy. He’d have to look for another position for him—one where they wouldn’t work closely together. Obviously, Miles hadn’t gotten past it.

When Alex entered the men’s room, he initially thought Chance wasn’t in there after all. A toilet flushed, and the door on the end stall flew open hard enough to crash against the tiled wall behind it. Chance squinted at him as they both stood before the row of sinks, the rocker washing his hands and Alex giving him a dull stare.

“What the fuck are you playing at, Alex? Why are you here?”

“What am I playing at? You’ve got to be kidding, right?”

“You come here just to screw with my head?” Chance stared accusingly into the mirror, moss-green eyes skewering Alex.

“Like you need any help with that, Chance. I think your head is fucked well and good, and it’s got nothing to do with me. Besides, you sent me a goddamn bat signal on the airwaves when you used my song!”

“So, you didn’t just show up ’cause you missed this, huh?” He grinned maliciously into the glass while he grabbed his crotch in a mocking gesture. In the harsh lighting, even with his dark makeup ringing his eyes from the concert, and the ebony spiral of a dragon’s body curling around his neck and disappearing into the ripped collar of his shirt, Alex could still see flashes of the boy he once knew. The row of stainless steel rings that marched up his left earlobe, and the skinny black leather pants, the anti-social hair and full sleeves of ink—even the cold and cynical glint in his eyes couldn’t completely mask the Chance Alex used to adore.

“How could you sing that song? I know I lost the competition. You needed to be a rock star more than you need me. I’m over it. But here you fuckin’ are, Chance—you made it to the big time without me, and without that song. The least you could do is show an ounce of fucking respect for what we had.”

“I do… I didn’t…” He tripped over his words, and Alex shook his head, about to walk out. Distance was the best thing to have between them. Why did he think confronting Chance would bring some sort of resolution, some kind of healing to the wound that never closed no matter how much time passed? He should have known being so near Chance would tear him apart all over again.

“Wait. Alex?” Chance exhaled a deep breath as if trying to decide if he really wanted to say whatever he was about to.

“I was drunk one night. I couldn’t get you … that song out of my head. I just thought if I sang it, I could sleep, ya know? Cliff heard me. Said we had to cut it.” Chance shook his head as if to negate his words. “He had the rest of the band pressure me.”

“So, once again, I lose to the band, huh? It’s classic Chance. You fucked me over for your career already! Years later, with an entire country between us, you do it again? I let you go, Chance. You should do the same.”

“Did you really?” Chance turned toward him, closing the distance between their bodies. Alex smelled sweat and leather, and Chance’s breath held the essence of liquor as he spoke. “You want to tell me you didn’t think about me at all this whole time? Is that why you never tried to find me? Never called?”

“Are you fucking serious? Is that what I was supposed to do?” Alex clenched his fists, torn between wanting to hit him, and dying to know if his lips, his tongue, tasted like vodka, or beer, or both.

“It woulda shown you cared.”

“I see the world still revolves around you. Nice to know some things never change.”

“Yeah, some things don’t. Your eyes are still that same amazing blue.” Chance leaned closer and the tip of his tongue flicked out to smooth his lips. “I still feel like I could just … dive into them and drown.”

Fuck. A shiver of excitement rumbled through Alex’s body. He had come here to yell at him, to make him realize what a self-centered prick he was. Hopefully shame him, at least a little. After that he was going to leave.

Instead, he leaned in, and his lips were on Chance’s. And, good lord, he tasted and smelled just the way Alex remembered underneath the burn of booze. Chance’s face was rougher against his chin and cheeks, not like the smooth-faced boy Alex used to steal kisses from. Damn, if the man wasn’t so much hotter. He licked the seam of Chance’s closed lips and the guy groaned beneath Alex’s onslaught while his mouth opened in response. Their tongues met, and Chance molded his warm body against Alex’s.

Christ, he feels almost too good.

Alex’s hand wrapped around the back of Chance’s neck. He loved the thatch of hair at Chance’s nape. Different color, but still reassuringly soft. Threading his fingers through the silky mass, he pulled Chance’s mouth closer, his tongue deeper into his own moist heat.

Alex smiled against Chance’s mouth as the rocker ground his hips upward into Alex’s throbbing groin. The guy’s cock was hot and hard, wrapped in buttery leather. It surged against Alex’s hard-on.

Not everything changed.

The squeak of the outer door being tugged open broke the love buzz, and Chance wrenched guiltily out of his arms.

Alex turned on the tap in a liquid-lightning move and started splashing water around as nonchalantly as he could manage. The sink was the right height to cover most of the bulge in his pants, and he prayed it would be enough.

When Dave wobbled in with a shit-faced grin and a “Heyahh!” Alex knew they were safe. Chance was safe, actually, because Alex had quit giving a donkey’s dick what anyone thought about his sexuality a long time ago.

He ran wet fingers through his dark-brown hair and spared Chance a last look. He wouldn’t even make eye contact. The guy was obviously freaked out of his mind.

Alex laughed out loud at the look of abject terror twisting Chance’s face, and gave Dave a nod as he walked out. His balls burned with disappointment, but his heart was lighter than it had been in a long time.

Writers Google the Oddest Things: Author M.S. Kaye

Writers Google the oddest things. It’s a wonder we’re not all on the government’s watch list. But then…maybe we are.

Here are some of the subjects I Googled during the writing of Fight Princess:

  1. Chicago (the city, not the musical)
  2. Types of gambling
  3. District attorney’s office
  4. The art of tattooing (Nope, I don’t have one of these.)
  5. 1990s Mercedes body style
  6. Standard police sidearm
  7. How bail bonding works
  8. How to spell blowjob(Who’d have thought that was one word?)
  9. Jail booking procedures
  10. How to break a neck

Okay, I’m probably on a watch list somewhere—but it’s worth it to have this much fun writing books.

Fight Princess is to be released on 9/2/13 from Liquid Silver Books.

Things aren’t what they seem. Don’t get involved.

Celisse is too headstrong to listen. Her best friend’s boyfriend is dead, and she does not heed Cullen’s warning, slipped to her in a note as he’s being arrested for the murder.

Cullen tries to keep Celisse out of danger and also tries to avoid her, both unsuccessfully. He can’t deny his feelings for her anymore, but he knows he can’t have her. If she ever discovered the truth about his past, she’d surely hate him.

While struggling with her intense feelings for Cullen, Celisse uses her skills as an ex-prosecutor to investigate, all while continuing to fight for Ogden, the organizer of an underground fight ring. She eventually realizes things are connected—the ring, Ogden, Cullen, the murder, and herself. She races to uncover the truth —before she’s arrested or becomes the next victim—or perhaps, the next culprit.
