“Slave For Love” Cover Reveal

Holy Hot Vampire Spankin’!  The wait was torture, but so worth it.  And maybe I even like a little torture. 🙂

This should be out very soon and includes my twisted fairy tale, “Cinderella in Hell.”

Here’s a quick teaser from “Cinderella in Hell” to get you in the mood:

Rella gazed across the expanse, shivering in delightful anticipation.  As the musicians ended their tune, the dancers cleaved like a wanton woman opening her legs to a lover.  At the center, she saw him.

Prince Dominic sat on his throne.  His black hair was pulled back at his nape, and he rested his strong chin on a fist.  Hooded eyes were glazed with obvious disinterest as they poured over the surrounding merriment.  As if pulled by an invisible force, his gaze met hers.

Rella was on fire.  Her fairy had kindled a conflagration within her.  It felt as though the pyre was visible through flesh and bone, boiling her blood, and apparent to the man who possessed the matching spark.  The prince stood, and stepped deliberately down the dais, straight toward her.

“You dare arrive at a royal ball attired thusly?”

His eyes burned into hers, indomitable and hard.  They were the color of pure emeralds, and equally unyielding.

“I mean no offense, Your Majesty.”  She curtsied, and black feathers fluttered around her.  The entire congregation seemed to be similarly ruffled.  Hushed whispers met her ears.  Snippets of speech rang clear in the low rumble.  Who is she?  What impudence!  Unmask her!

“I would know who stands before me.  You challenge the etiquette of my realm.”  The prince’s hands pulled her mask away as he spoke.

“Rella, of House Tremaine, as it pleases Your Highness.”

Please me, indeed.  My subjects never fail to please me, Rella of Tremaine.  He leaned toward her, and lowered his voice.  “Why do you think I stage this travesty of a ball?  All here are eager to please, but so few truly crave the role of submissive.”  His eyes raked her body.  “Do you think I am blind to those that warm my hand and bed out of duty?  Those affairs taste stale from the outset.”

His voice was a dark whisper for only her ears and sharp teeth flashed between his lush lips as he spoke.  A lustful tremor spiked through Rella.

“And yet, you throw my predilections in my face with your garb.  It is a transgression worthy of punishment.”

Deciding to Write

I have TD Hassett guesting on my blog today.  TD is a fellow Liquid Silver author whose book Isabel’s Awakening is available now.  She’s here to tell us about her decision to write.

Hi, TD!  Thanks for visiting!

Thanks for letting me stop by today! I don’t get out of my office nearly as much as I would like, at least not for fun stuff like talking about writing.

I only took up writing very recently and it was kind of a fluke.   I teach a SAT prep class, among other things, and oddly enough was inspired to start writing by one of the students in that class.  She was an inner city teenager with more baggage than I’ve ever come across. This girl is a smart kid with a ton of charisma.  Often times I would catch her on the computer typing away but not about what was assigned.  I’d try and redirect her and she’d say, “Miss, I can’t do that, I’m writing my novel.” I would get her to do a little bit of the class work and then she’d be back at her writing.  It was both frustrating and inspiring. I went home and reflected on this student’s determination to write and it was contagious.

I started a book that evening and by the end of a week had  forty pages written.  It was slow going, but whenever I wanted to give up I just thought about my student who kept writing despite all the very real roadblocks life had thrown at her.  What was my excuse for quitting?  Could I really give something up because I had some writer’s block or was too busy?  What would I be too busy doing at nine at night?  It took me 6 months to get a polished draft ready to send to the publishers for consideration but it was worth it. I got plenty of rejection letters but finally three publishing houses offered contracts and I chose  Liquid Silver Books because the acquisitions editor  reached out to me with all kinds of support and encouragement.  I waited until I had a contract to tell my family and friends (and that inspirational student) that I had been writing.  I suppose I was afraid to let them know about the writing for fear of it not being ‘good enough’ whatever that means.  I can happily say that I am still writing and enjoying some wonderful support from friends, family and fellow writers.

Happy Writing!

Author Biography

T.D. Hassett  grew up reading the romance greats, Jackie Collins, Julie Garwood and Judith McNaught.  She was certain that life should be like a romance novel, lots of passion, some incredible adventures and a guaranteed happily ever after.  She attended college in New England earning a B.A. in history and a M.S. degree in clinical psychology before changing her mind again and studying education.  Currently Ms. Hassett lives in Connecticut with her very patient husband and two young children.  Her rambunctious family shares their home with 3 crazy cats and a darling golden retriever named Delilah.  Her eccentric relatives and their quest to make her feel like the only normal nut in the family tree inspire her writing.

 Isabel's Awakening

It’s been five busy years, and Newcastle-born singer/guitarist Thomas Morgan is still punishing himself for his younger brother’s death.

Thomas’s young, fashion-model wife once led her husband’s idolizing brother, Chris, into both drugs and an adulterous relationship. The loss of his brother and total destruction of his marriage destroyed Thomas. To avoid entanglements with others, even his young son, Thomas focused on promoting his music and the management of his now highly profitable record company. He thought he had everything at a safe distance, at least until Isabel literally slammed into his life.

High school teacher, Isabel Warren, finds herself falling head over heels in love with the sexy-as-sin guitarist for the rock band Becket. Soon Isabel’s orderly world of lesson plans, thesis writing, and student loan debt is competing against desire, passion, and her vulnerable heart.

Isabel struggles to navigate her newly stirred passions with her rising academic career and independent nature. As the sex sizzles, the two lovers will have to decide which parts of their dreams they will sacrifice for their fledgling relationship.

Can Thomas ever trust and love again, and will the young woman he meets ever have the confidence and strength to be with him?

Excerpt:

It was well after midnight, and Isabel felt the buzz of concert beer and party wine. Thomas had been working the room steadily and checking back to ensure she was chatting happily with a group. She saw him cornered with a radio show producer he’d introduced her to earlier. Thomas had a tortured expression on his beautiful face. She finally understood why the whole band didn’t show up at these things.

The ladies she’d been chatting with were working up a sweat on the dance floor, and part of her longed to join them. The rational side won out. She really couldn’t dance and preferred others not to know how clumsy she could be, especially after a few drinks. Isabel parked herself by the bar and prepared to enjoy some people-watching. She couldn’t believe how packed the place was. She did meet some really nice people and only got snubbed by a few drunken idiots who must have been trawling for celebrities. Part of her was disappointed it was time to go when Thomas returned from his latest round of shop talk and asked if she was ready to head out.

Thomas escorted her to the elevator while tapping out a message on his iPhone. He was letting the hotel’s driver know they were ready to go and where to meet them. They stepped into the mirror-lined elevator and headed down to the lobby level. Suddenly, Isabel was nervous, and not in a front-door-kiss-or-no-kiss-end-of-the-date sort of way. She hadn’t had the talk with herself about this date because it just all sort of happened. She had really expected just to go to the show and then be home by ten thirty, reading thesis notes and petting her cat. Even at the backstage party, she’d still thought she’d get to chat with him for a few minutes and then be dismissed with the rest of the hordes. Why did he want to be with her when there were so many other girls? Insecurities washed over her.

Thomas overwhelmed her. He was so out of Isabel’s little world. On Monday, she would teach the Crusades to disinterested seventeen-year-olds, and he would be many miles away somewhere, crooning out megahits to a stadium filled with adoring fans. Oh my God. What was she even pretending to do?

Her disparaging thoughts suddenly flew totally out of her head. Thomas looked right into her eyes and stroked her lower lip.

“You did great tonight. I’m really glad you came,” he huskily whispered. Before she could ask for clarification, he continued. “I saw you talking and laughing with the staff from Marketing and Planning, and I liked that. In my line of work, you get a little sick of people always brown-nosing the celebrities and forgetting who’s responsible for the whole fuckin’ operation.”

It sounded as though he was about to say more, but the elevator jerked to a stop, and the lights went out, only to flicker back on seconds later. Must have been a power surge and the backup generators were kicking on.

Isabel stared back, wide-eyed and openmouthed. He leaned closer, and without any further hesitation, his lips met hers.

This was a kiss, a real, soul-sucking and tongue-sliding-over-her-lips kiss, the kiss of all kisses. Oh my.

One of his hands slid from her jawline to the back of her neck and pushed her lips into harder contact with his own. The other hand gently tugged her jaw down so her mouth opened slightly. His tongue slipped into her mouth and tickled her inner lip. He swirled his tongue around and caressed hers. She tasted the heady mix of wine and good stout on their mingling breaths. Before she could stop herself, she let a little moan escape. Their mouths became even hungrier for each other, and she pressed her breasts to his chest. He nibbled her lip a bit and then resumed the dueling of tongues deep in her mouth. The hand on her neck dropped down and gently squeezed her ass, pushing her harder into him. She felt his erection against her lower belly, and very wicked parts of her longed to pull his leather pants down and stroke him. Isabel rolled her hips against him and was rewarded with a wonderful growl.

He slid his hand up her clingy tank top and cupped her breast. She wanted more. Her breasts swelled, and her core became soaked with just the rhythm of his tongue in her mouth, sliding in and out and around. His slender fingers slid their way under her bra, and finally, he stroked one engorged nipple. The blood in her body flooded to two very special spots.

Isabel strained against his fingers, wanting him to pinch and stroke her nipple more. Hell, she wanted him to slide his other hand up and play with both breasts. He ground against her, and she responded with animal like mewling noises. This was not the teacher her students would even realize existed.

The elevator shook and resumed its downward journey, jolting both of them apart. Cool air flowed against her heated skin, and they each took a deep breath. Thomas stepped sideways a bit. He smiled like a male model and said simply, “Wow.”

She couldn’t help replying, “Wow to you too.”

Red Phoenix Cherry Poppin’ Blog Tour

Today I welcome author Red Phoenix to my blog. Her newest release, “Brie Learns the Art of Submission” is available  now from Amazon. Her book is broken down into two sections with alluring subtitles. In Tame, we find His Touch (Brie Learns to Obey)Marquis Gray’s Flogger (Brie Learns Her Power as a Submissive), and The Art of Kinbaku (Brie Embraces Bondage).

Notice how that was called Tame? It could refer to taming the submissive, but then again, it might just be a commentary on the type of erotic action you’ll find, especially when compared to Wicked, the next section. This one includes quite the sexual assortment: Warrior Fantasy (Brie Lives Her Fantasy), Chocolate (Brie Surrenders to His Will), and Her First DP (Brie on Display). Yup. I’m guessing the latter.

Red was kind enough to do an interview (above and beyond the call of duty, actually;).

So, without further ado, let’s get sexy with Red Phoenix.

First off, thanks for stopping over, Red!  It’s great to have you here.

I’m curious—what got you interested in writing erotic romance?

I wanted to delve into self-publishing and thought short stories would be a great way to start. I had two characters in a romance novel I had written and I wanted to explore their more intimate lives. That was the basis for Loving Amy, my very first work of erotica.

What is your writing process like? Are you a planner? Pantster? What is your favorite writing tool or tip?

I let the muses carry the story. I know where we are headed, but they fill in the details as we go. It is exciting as the story unfolds and all the pieces come together. The more I write the easier it is for me to let go and allow the muses to carry me along.bring most pleasure

My advice: Write, write, write! The more you do it the better you become. However, you cannot skip the editing process. No matter the brilliance of your story, you owe your readers a clean copy. (I started out self-editing.) I now have a professional editor and am going back to earlier stories and revising them. My fans deserve only the best.

Who are your favorite erotic romance authors right now and why?

Honestly, I try to stay away from reading other erotic books as much as possible. I do not want to be influenced by another writer’s style or storyline. I believe part of my allure is my unique voice and I don’t want to lose that.

How would you describe your writing style?

Let me have a fan speak for me: “I think I love this book as much as I do because we get to go right along with Brie. We get to sit through the classes with Mr. Gallant. The students ask all the questions that we would ask if we were sitting in the desk next to them. We get to hear his answers that are so detailed that we understand exactly what he is trying to teach us that day. Then they move to Practicum and we feel the trainer’s eyes on us, we feel the embarrassment when we get reprimanded, and the pride when they compliment. Then when they move into the auditorium for the final period of the day, we get the butterflies in our bellies from nervousness, the fear when they make us face something unknown, and the excitement when our fantasies are about to be fulfilled.” – Kayla

When it comes to choosing a fictional hero, what are your three must-haves? How about heroine?Boa treat

For Him: Committed, real (not perfect), confident in himself. Her: Strong, intelligent, willing to meet life’s challenges and her own weaknesses.

If you could pick one weapon for a zombie fight, what would it be?

A sling shot.

Very interesting!

Okay, last question.  What is the most compelling reason you can give someone who has yet to read your work to pick up one of your books?

I write erotica to entice the mind and heart, as well as the loins. My intent is to draw you in so that you experience what the character is experiencing, feel their emotional ups and downs, and want to jump someone’s bones afterwards.

A noble goal! 🙂  Well, with that aim in mind, I leave you all with an excerpt from Brie Learns the Art of Submission!

From Warrior Fantasy (Brie Lives Her Fantasy):

His thrusts were strong and demanding. She had to remind herself to relax in order to take his entirety. She groaned as his speed and depth increased. He grabbed handfuls of her hair, grunting in his own pleasure while his tight pelvic muscles delivered repeated thrusts.

She could feel the burn on her back as they slowly inched across the carpet. It added to the brutish feel of their coupling. She wrapped her legs around his waist and cried out so the whole house could hear. “Rytsar, you’re too big!” she screamed loudly, adding, “But I like it, oh, yes…! You make it hurt so good.” Even though she knew he couldn’t understand, she suspected some of his friends spoke English and it pleased her to promote his manliness to the crowd in the other room.

He grasped her face in his hands and kissed her deeply while he consumed her with his body. The ridge of his shaft rubbed that area deep inside that made her legs quiver uncontrollably. She purred into his mouth as he brought her to the edge, but then he stopped. Rytsar pulled out, chuckling wickedly under his breath.

He turned Brie onto her stomach and grunted out a command she assumed meant ‘stay’. She lay on the carpet, breathless and needy. He came back to her less than a minute later and lay on top of her body with his rigid member between her butt cheeks. He lifted her pelvis up with one hand and pressed his lubricated cock against her ass.

My First Smexy Guest Post by Sofia Grey

Wolfie blog tour banner v2

My first…Smexy by Sofia Grey

My First Smexy - image

Celebrating the launch of my first story with Liquid Silver Books, I’m blogging about other Firsts of mine.

The first hero I created – that actually survived an entire manuscript instead of being thrown away somewhere after chapter three – was a racing driver called Jon Craigowan. I drafted a sexy novel about him falling for an innocent girl but it stayed in draft form. I moved on to write something else, and then another, and over the next fifteen years my lovely racing driver sat gathering dust.

I still remember clearly though, the agonizing hours spent writing their love scenes. Smexy books weren’t the norm back then. You had Mills & Boon, and then you had Black Lace erotica, but with very little in between. I wanted my characters to have an active and exciting sex life, not just a chaste kiss and a bit of touching.

The world is very different now. Smexy books are everywhere, and I am so glad, but smexy scenes and my journey with them is another post, and this one is about heroes.

My characters have also evolved over the past years, in particular moving from strictly contemp to paranormal romance. Wolf At The Door is my first shifter novel, and kicks off an entire new world for my writing. Set in the remote mountains of Wales, I’ve created the first in the Snowdonia Wolves series. Jake, my wolf, is very different to my first fictional hero. He’s totally Alpha and a little kinky in the bedroom, but some facets remain the same. He’s totally smitten with my leading lady, but playful too. Wolves are great fun to write and already I’m playing around with the characters in the next book.

As for my first ever hero, I have plans for him. His story was revamped and polished recently and one day, hopefully not too far away, he’ll get published. He also appears as a secondary character in another book coming later this year. You never forget your first, aye.

Who was your first hero? The one you swooned over? What was it about him that set your pulse racing?

Here’s a little snippet from Wolf At The Door (available 13 May 2013 from Liquid Silver Books). Lillian has challenged Jake to a game of tag.

*

Lillian tore along the path a few yards and then ducked behind a shrub. She couldn’t hear Jake, but that didn’t mean he wasn’t there. She peered round the leaves and buds, but there was no sign of him. Cautious, she moved back, stepping carefully around a patch of bluebells to avoid trampling the flowers. A fat, old oak tree stood to the side and she slipped behind it. He wouldn’t see her here. Intent on watching the path, she never heard him. The first sign she was not alone, was the pair of hands covering her eyes.

“Got you.” He sounded so smug that she giggled.

“How did you get there? You didn’t come down the path.” His hard body pressed up behind her, and now they touched from shoulder to hip.

“I know my way around.” She felt the unmistakable nudge of a hard-on bumping against her ass and she sucked in a breath.

“I won. What’s my prize, Cariad?”

Desire made her dizzy for a second, and she had to focus on his words.

“Me.”

Balancing Life with Writing or My Premature Ejaculation

I was never the most organized person in the first place.  You know, I’m one of those blondes who always has notes to self written on the back of her hand (right hand, because I’m a lefty).

When I was working as an RN, I had a number of things I needed to get done in a certain period of time.  I had a system, and made allowances for the unexpected.  It all got done—sometimes I stayed a little later than planned, but by the time I left, my slate was washed clean until the next time I reported for duty. I got to start over on a daily basis.

Now that I’m a stay at home mom and an author, the list of “things” is long and far-reaching into the future, and the “off-in-the-distance things” branch over the “daily things” for a combination of stuff that can be overwhelming at times.

Sometimes, it feels like I’m a snowball rolling down a hill.  I just keep collecting more things to do.  Some snow drops off on occasion, but the rate that I gather more far exceeds the pace of release.

English: Writing «Shit_happens»

English: Writing «Shit_happens» (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

I have a calendar for real life and kid stuff (of which there is a lot). I have a calendar for blog posts and promo stuff and writing deadlines (of which there are also a lot). I have a book to keep track of writing expenses and a piles of shit (okay little slips of paper) surrounding my desk.  My hand has the word “dentist” written on it in permanent marker and we depart in minutes.  I couldn’t possibly fit my writing to-do list on my poor, abused skin.

Anyway, my point is, I misfired this morning; scheduled a post for the wrong date, and then realized and pulled it back immediately.  I will still be posting it on the correct date.  Anyone looking for Sofia Grey’s First Smexy this morning will have to wait a whole month.   Editing to say I was right in the first place and now re-posted.  I am just going to crawl back into bed and see if I can start this day over again.  Shoot me.  Shoot me now.

You can still check out her other first posts (here is the one for today).  And here is mine for today.  HOLY CRAP I’m an idiot!  You can still go check out her new wolf shifter book, Wolf at the Door.  No need to wait for me to get my shit together, because you could die of old age before that happens. 😉

And me?  I’ll reevaluate my system and see if I can possibly shake a bit more snow off and find my frozen brain. The forecast doesn’t look promising.

Lisa M. Owens Takes Us Back in Time

Author Lisa Owens is here today!  She’s answering a few of my burning questions, and giving us a glimpse of her time travel romance, If Only. Reviewers are calling her book a “sweetly emotional” read that pulls off “the seemingly impossible.”  I’m excited to check this one out!

1) Do you believe in Happily Ever Afters in real life? Why or why not?

I believe that Happily Ever Afters are possible but I also believe that they are somewhat rare. There is so much temptation that can lead a relationship astray. Nowadays, when people get married, it seems as though most of those people are only committed to those sacred vows until something better comes along.

I suppose in some way, that is why I write what I write. That way, they could stay in love forever.

2) How would you describe your writing style/tone of your stories to someone who hasn’t read you yet?

I write stories about everyday women in emotionally charged situations.

Full of love, red-hot sex and overflowing with emotion.

(How can an author write about love without expressing any emotion? I try to write stories about women that you will cheer for when they’re up and cry along with them with they are down.)

3) Let’s say you were abducted by aliens. Why did they choose you and why did they consequently let you go?

Why would they choose me: Probably because of my wild imagination.

Why would they let me go: Same reason. They would probably get sick and tired of me following them all around the spaceship, carrying my notebook and pencil, asking them all sorts of questions. (How fast does your ship go? What do you eat? How do you mate? What do you need humans for?)

Eventually, they would run away screaming and open the portal door, booting me out on my ass.

4) While you’re writing/planning—music or no music? If music, what kind?

It just kind of varies. Some days, I work better with music. On other days, I work better without.

The type of music I listen to mainly depends on what kind of a scene I am writing. When I am writing a sex scene, for example, I listen to Mariah Carey or Celine Dion. If I am working on an angry scene, like the confrontational scene between Bree and her ex-husband, I listen to more female empowered songs. For example: Pink, Avril Lavigne and Kelly Clarkson.

5) Do you have only one WIP, or do you bounce around between projects?

I like to have a couple of different projects to work on. That way, if I get stuck on one storyline, I can switch to the other. I limit myself to only having two works in progress at a time. That way, I always know my story line and I have a less chance of getting confused that I would if I had four or five projects that I was working on concurrently.

6) Tell us a little about your current WIP.

I am currently working on two manuscripts.

One is the continuation of my If Only series. It is about a woman who married for love instead of for money. Fourteen years later, she wonders how her life would have been different if she had married for money instead.

The other is the story of a Marine who returns home from fighting in Afghanistan to discover that things aren’t the same as they were when he left.

7) Please give us a two-hundred word teaser from your latest release, as well as the tag line for your book.

What would you do if you had the opportunity to go back and relive your greatest mistake?

Five years ago, Bree Sexton walked out on her fiancé and into the arms of a charming and handsome stranger. She has regretted her decision ever since. Instead of a fairy-tale marriage, her “prince” shattered her dreams and her spirit with physical violence and emotional cruelty she barely escaped.

She then mysteriously wakes up in bed with the fiancé she loved and left, the life she’d dreamed of now a reality, until her cruel ex-husband reappears to destroy her new life. But what is real, and what is make-believe? Is she really getting the chance she has always dreamed of? And when it is all said and done, will she finally end up with the man she has always regretted leaving? Or will she wake up to discover herself alone?

8) Do you have any manuscripts collecting cyber dust on your hard drive? What and why?

None collecting dust on my hard drive, but I do have a file cabinet filled with plays and stories from my teenage years. I recently went through them and I found several that although they were written poorly, the storylines were good ideas for teen novels. I am thinking that someday, I might dust them off and try writing a few books for teenagers. Until then, they will stay locked in my file cabinet, away from prying eyes, collecting dust bunnies.

9) What’s the meanest thing you ever did to one of your characters?

The meanest thing I have ever done to one of my characters has to be the trials that I put Bree Sexton through in If Only. Although it is first and foremost a romance novel, it goes into some detail as to the physical and emotional abuse that her ex-husband put her through.

10) Where can we find more information about you and your books?

Hop Against Homophobia

Happy International Day Against Homophobia and Transphobia!

To celebrate, The Hop Against Homophobia and Transphobia begins now, and I am thrilled to be taking part this year!

Participating authors are posting on LGBTQ-related topics, and everyone involved is hosting a giveaway of their own. With well over 150 participants, this hop is huge, with tons of opportunities to win books, swag, and whatever other LGBTQ-related prizes bloggers are offering. Make sure you check it out!

For my part, I logged on here to work on a post, and noticed that I had lost a blog follower.  At first, I was a little hurt.  Then, it got me thinking—should I do something different?  Was it the photo of the naked butt I recently posted for the cover of my Love Has No Boundaries story?  Was it the fact that I write gay erotic romance in addition to the heterosexual variety and someone doesn’t want to read my blog anymore because of one or the other?  Was it my potty mouth? Shit!

I spent some time trying to mentally sift through my recent posts to figure it out, and then a thought occurred to me: it really doesn’t matter.  I’m not going to change who I am or what I write.  I can’t please all of the people, and those who enjoy my writing, or my potty mouth, or my naked butt pictures, will continue to follow me, or hopefully find me eventually.

I have to enjoy my writing first and foremost. Part of that enjoyment involves the notion that maybe, just maybe, I’m broadening someone else’s horizons with what I write.  Whether it’s a story about a gay character, a hardcore environmentalist, a heterosexual female who isn’t shamed by her enjoyment of sex, or simply about a dude with a foreskin—I enjoy shining a light on ideas that I think deserve to be illuminated. Do I want to entertain? Absolutely.  But I would love to make people think at the same time.

And that “take it or leave it” attitude is how I imagine people who are homosexual (or transsexual, or bisexual, or …fill in the blank…) feel as well.  Or, at least, I want them to feel that way.  I strive to have my characters embrace who they are, and say to hell with everyone else.  I want them to have that empowering moment eventually, especially  if the social ramifications of their sexuality are a factor in their tale.

I want everyone who has ever felt “different” to get to that point and hold onto it for a lifetime—to be proud of who they are, and to enjoy every precious moment on this earth.

So, let the people who aren’t interested unfollow you.  Let them go their own way and read their own crap.  Hang out with whoever they want.  They can’t stop me from posting what I like, liking what I like, or loving who I love.  They can’t stop you, either.  And there will always be those who believe in you, think the way you think, and respect you for who you are, regardless of whether or not you walk identical paths. Those people are the only ones you want following you anyway.

“May flowers always line your path and sunshine light your day. May songbirds serenade you every step along the way. May a rainbow run beside you in a sky that’s always blue. And may happiness fill your heart each day your whole life through.”

For my giveaway, I’m offering a signed paperback of “Written in Flesh.”

For many people, there’s nothing hotter than a man with tattoos. He might get them to commemorate a lost loved one, celebrate an event, or just to look bad-ass, but there’s no doubt the man enjoys showing off his ink. Tribal, classic black and white, or elaborate colored artwork spanning the entire back, each mark has a story, an indelible reminder of the past etched onto the human canvas with care and precision. We’re showcasing four of those stories in “Written in Flesh”.

Key is “Bound by Ink” to a woman he does not—*cannot*—love. He runs to escape his fate, but finds Dax, another fugitive, and learns that some bonds go deeper than skin. In the heyday of the 1980’s, Ian Grothe’s club is about to discover the Next Big Thing, but Ian only has eyes for the lead singer. But as the band’s star rises, Ian gets left behind, his hopes turning to “Powder”.

Then, in “Helotry”, Rontak is an escaped slave who wears the mark of his service beneath his skin. While on the run, he is sheltered by Tréy, an artist with a heavy secret of his own. Finally, Ellis comes to the Sui Generis Protection Agency bearing the “Mark of the Familiar”, magical animal tattoos granting him remarkable shapeshifting abilities. When he feels a True Bond to William, the Wardsman of the agency, he has to convince William of the truth or risk losing his sanctuary, and perhaps even his life.

When her godson is kidnapped and the kidnapper offers to trade the boy for Leah, she doesn’t hesitate.

Leah finds herself in the lair of Phoenix, a former Marquis bent on avenging the death of his lover. He is also a scientist who is using DNA from various species with the hopes of creating an army of Supernaturals.

Leah must stop Phoenix, save those he has tampered with, and get back to Ian.

But first, she must save herself.

Excerpt:

Shifting, I trailed my mouth down his neck, teasing his chest and then sliding lower, where I confirmed that Ian was, indeed, naked, hard, and eager for me. Ian lowered his lips to mine and our tongues tangled together. Short, slow licks quickly smoldered into white-hot desire as we made love to each other’s bodies with our lips and tongues.

He pushed me away from him and I released him with a reluctant groan until he flipped me on my back and wrapped my legs around his shoulders. With his eyes fixed on mine, he slid his tongue out and gave me one long, torturing lick. I gasped, and he flashed me that crooked smile of his and did it again.

“I love to watch your eyes glaze over in ecstasy while I devour you, my love,” he crooned before tasting me once again.

I fisted my hands into the silky strands of his hair and lost all sense of sanity as he tormented my body with long, slow swirls of his skillful tongue. When I thought I could take no more, he slipped his tongue inside me and suckled on my center until I could only see white bursts of pleasure through my closed eyelids. My head thrashed from side to side. His pace relaxed and the slower he slid in and out of me, the more intense the pleasure became that shuddered through me until my body burst with rapture and insanity all at once. I screamed his name with my release, but Ian kept his mouth in place, drinking down my pleasure—as if it were the blood he existed upon.

"Sticking It" by K. Vale

“Sticking It” by K. Vale

On our Goodreads thread hop this week, we are answering the question, “If our main characters had a time machine, where would they go?”

I wrote a 500 word flash in response.  Yes it is in present, omniscient just for the halibut.

Porta-Potty Time Machine

by K. Vale

“What the hell is this?” Dane knocks on the metal door and turns to give Adam an odd half-smile, half-scowl.

“Why, it’s a time machine.” Adam steps forward, chuckling at Dane’s expression. “See?  T-I-M-E spells time.  And M-A-C—”

Dane steps on his foot and twists like he’s putting out a cigarette. The maneuver works to put out Adam’s snark.

“Yeah. I can read, Poindexter. What the hell is a metal porta-potty marked time machine doing in my bedroom?”

“April fools?”

“It’s May…” Checks his sports watch …“6th, dude.”

“Maybe Paul was screwing with you.”

“Yeah?  Look inside, then.  If Paul did it, it’s probably going to spray something vile.”

“So, why would I open it?”

Dane harrumphs, stands to the side, yells “Fire in the hole!” and karate kicks the door which springs open while Adam ducks and covers.

Nothing jumps or shoots out.  Cautiously, they peer inside.  A digital display graces the wall where the toilet should be.

“Fuck me.  It is a time machine,” Dane says, doing that weird face again so Adam cracks up as he tries to recover from his undignified retreat.

They squeeze into the porta-machine together.

“Where should we go?” Dane asks, purposely grinding against Adam.

“I wouldn’t mind going back to this morning and fixing the essay portion of my Psych exam. Pretty sure I spelled Wernicke’s wrong.  Stupid core classes.”

“Seriously?  You’d rather go back and retake a test than get busy in a time machine?  It’s like I don’t even know who you are.”

“What?  You didn’t say have sex.  You specifically said where should we go?”

“Right.  You wanna sit on the console or should I?”

“Hmmm….”

Dane yanks down his pants and underwear while Adam is deliberating. He folds his jeans in half and lays them over the buttons before hopping up on top.

Lights start flashing and the porta-machine begins to spin like Dorothy’s house.

“Fuck!” Dane jumps down and slams into Adam as the machine shifts around them worse than a tequila hangover.

“That’s what got us into this mess in the first place!” Adam yells over the sounds of howling wind and robotic beeps.

They slide to the floor, a tangle of naked and clothed limbs, vibrating against each other.

“Hey, not bad.” Dane mumbles, and finds Adam’s lips with his own.

“Really, Dane?  Really?”

“Hey, when in Rome…”

“Rome? Oh, Lord.  I have a calculus exam at three!”

“Come on.  A little bathhouse action and I’ll have ya back by two thirty.” Dane squeezes Adam’s stiffening piece through his khakis.

Adam gives him an exhausted sigh, but Dane knows he’s got him by the balls.  Because, in fact, he does have him by the balls.

“Okay. But only because I have our togas in my backpack for that stupid party later.”

“That’s the spirit.” Dane starts unbuttoning Adam’s shirt and kissing his way down his neck.

And the rest, as they say, is history.
